Why Euphoria Is Getting All The Love It Deserves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lynn chapter.

Trigger warning: Despite the reasons listed below and the overall hype of Euphoria show, the show is intended and targeted towards mature audiences. The show contains graphic scenes of substance abuse, physical abuse and more controversial and difficult topics. Please only watch and read below if you feel comfortable.

Is it just me or is it that every time I open up my Instagram, it’s flooded with Euphoria media and news? I am sure we can all agree that the HBO TV show has become one of the world’s favorite shows. Euphoria aired in 2019 with only eight episodes  and its recent second season release in January has taken the world by storm once again with brand new episodes. Now, I will admit I was not an instant fan from the beginning, with the increased popularity and news online, I will admit I have fallen under some peer pressure to find out what this show is really all about. Well, here is why Euphoria is getting all the attention and love it really deserves.

One of the main aspects that attracted me the most, was the aesthetic and overall visual effects of the show. The makeup seen on the cast members is what makes Euphoria KNOWN to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing shows. It has inspired millions of makeup artists to create their own Euphoria-inspired looks which was seen with the major rhinestone-eyeshadow TikTok trend called “Euphoria High”. The show normalized the use of glitter and crystals into our daily makeup looks (even though I’ve always been one to wear glitter makeup for almost any occasion) but I suppose it’s inspired society at large too.

Getting a little deeper than makeup and hair, another reason why Euphoria is getting all the love it deserves is because of its real-life hardships. The show provides a sense of inclusion, diversity and extreme awareness around sensitive, glorified topics that allow young adults to relate to and fall in love with characters. Many of the main characters are a part of the LGBTQ+ community which again, expresses awareness to inclusion and real-life. Other topics such as abusive relationship awareness is expressed throughout the show particularly with Mandy (Maddy Perez) and Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) relationship. Viewers are able to identify that the relationship is toxic for both Mandy’s mental and physical well-being.

Lastly, let’s not forget about the acting of the Euphoria cast. From the queen herself, Zendaya to Jacob Elordi and Angus Cloud, just mentioning their names turn heads. The plot focuses on Rue Bennett (Zendaya), a high school student who struggles with substance abuse, as she struggles her way through her adolescent life. Euphoria can be summed up by adolescent life filled with craziness, drama, gorgeous makeup and pure chaos.

Euphoria is easily a show that is totally worth the binge if you’re up to it. A similar read about why we are all obsessed with Euphoria is an article by Jaccie Reaves titled “8 Reasons We’re All Obsessed With ‘Euphoria’”

A reminder that Euphoria contains many sensitive and difficult topics, please take care of yourself.
