If you’re ever feeling a little down, or that you just can’t seem to catch a break, here are a five tips that may help you through.  Remember that taking care of yourself should be your first priority because you are valued, important, and worthy!

Positive playlists for the win

I am a firm believer that music can change a mindset. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes you just need to play Olivia Rodrigo on repeat and have a good cry, but if you’re trying to get out of a funk make a playlist you know is going to make you smile. Find songs that remind you of happy memories, songs that give you that bad ass energy you need, and most importantly, songs that make you want to get out of bed and dance (and then do it!)

Phone a friend

Talking with my besties is my favorite form of therapy.  When you’re feeling down or letting those negative thoughts win, give your friends a call.  More specifically, call a friend that you know will make you laugh.  True friends can have the powerful gift of knowing exactly what to say to make light of a situation, or talk you out of your catastrophic mindset. Whether I’m having boy troubles, school troubles or just have an unfortunate story to tell, I can always rely on my friends to help me laugh it out (shout out to you guys!)

Put it on paper

Take the time to write out what you’re feeling.  The act of simply putting all your thoughts and emotions down on paper could be exactly what you need to find peace of mind. Also, if you’re an overthinker (like me), something that could be beneficial is writing down the facts you know about whatever you’re anxious about.  For example, if you are stressed that a friend is mad at you, write down the facts that would prove your negative thoughts to be true, and the facts that debunk your theory. I have found that oftentimes when you see the facts written out on paper, it’s evident that you really have nothing to worry about.

See it, say it, believe it

Surround yourself with positive vibes only! Get on Pinterest and print out inspirational quotes that speak to you, and put them in places where you can see them often.  Put them next to your bed, on your mirror, and keep them saved on your phone.  The repetition of reading these positive words over and over can literally train your mind to begin to believe them, even if they seem silly at first.

Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Lastly, do something for yourself that you know you enjoy.  Get a pedicure, go for a walk at the beach, treat yourself to your favorite meal, anything that makes you happy! Even if that means sacrificing other plans to have some you time, go for it!
