The Great War: Taylor Swift Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lynn chapter.

If you haven’t been living under a rock these past few weeks, you must have heard of the chaos Swifty’s have gone through trying to secure Taylor Swift concert tickets. Millions of people were trying to get tickets, but the line was very long and the website kept crashing. The whole experience was chaotic. Fans were fighting for their lives for tickets; it felt like a real-life Hunger Games.

When it comes to concerts, there is usually a presale for fans to get their hands on tickets before everyone. For The Eras Tour, there were two available presales. The first presale was the verified fan presale, which anyone could sign up for. The second presale was the Capital One presale, where only Capital One card holders could access it. Over 3.5 million people registered for the verified fan presale. In the past, the average amount of people who had access to presale and bought tickets was 40%. Each person usually buys 3 – 4 tickets. Ticketmaster gave out 1.5 million presale codes thinking only 40% of people with codes will go to the website for the presale. The 2 million fans who did not get a presale code were put on a waiting list.

Millions of people were on the Ticketmaster website trying to get tickets. The website kept crashing and kicking people out of the queue as it could not handle the number of users on the site. Swifties waited for hours in line; some were lucky to score tickets, and others waited until no tickets were left. Fans were left in the queue even though the stadium had no more seats left. Between the two presales, over 2.4 million tickets were sold. This is the most amount of tickets sold in a day for any artist.

The demand is so high for Taylor Swift tickets. For everyone who was waiting in the queue to have a ticket, Taylor would need to perform at over 900 stadiums every single night for the next 2.5 years. This is in the United States alone. Taylor Swift has not announced any other tour date besides the US dates. International fans worry that Taylor will do fewer shows in their counties and a smaller stadium.

As tickets are sold out, resellers are selling tickets for triple the price! Fans are so desperate to see Taylor Swift live in concert that they are willing to pay triple the price. Taylor is known for having amazing concerts, so everyone wants to experience it in their lifetime.

The Eras Tour is going to be the concert of the year! For those of you who are going, you are going to have the best time ever, and for those who didn’t get tickets, don’t be upset. Taylor always fights for her fans, so she will find a way to add more dates or tickets.
