Remembering Mac Miller On The Third Anniversary Of His Death

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lynn chapter.

Mac Miller was more than just a rapper, he was a musical genius. Mac passed away on September 7th in 2018 due to a drug overdose. He created music to inspire other kids to follow their dreams. Mac knew he was not perfect, he was a real person with real struggles and he put it all into his music. He was able to channel his feelings into his music. From the lyrics to the beats his music ranged from happy upbeat songs to some emotional tear-jerkers to even writing about his battle with addiction. He was true to himself and he preached positivity “no matter where life takes me fine me with a smile”

Mac Miller is my favorite artist. I can listen to him all day every day. Listening to his music for the first time to the beats and his way with words I instantly became obsessed with him. What I love most about him is he knew he was not perfect and he was not afraid to admit it. He was passionate, kind and he was taken too soon. He had a way of soothing his listeners and making them feel calm with either his raw lyrics or just a happy beat. His music helped me whenever I was feeling in a funk. I would put on my earphones and just blast him on shuffle. If I could choose a favorite I would say his album called “Swimming.” It was also his last album, but in my opinion, it was his best. The lyrics and the production of this album was amazing and even his tone had a very chill vibe. This album spoke to me and one of my favorite songs is called “Self-care” and I can listen to this on repeat. In his song “Self-care,” he is spreading a message about overcoming hardships and being in self-control.

“I got all the time in the world,

so for now I’m just chillin’ Plus,

I know it’s a, it’s a beautiful feelin’

In oblivion, yeah, yeah, oblivion, yeah.”

He was one of a kind and maybe even ahead of his time. Mac Miller will be remembered forever and his music will continue to inspire future generations to come.
