Movie Characters That Scream Girl Power

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lynn chapter.

A good representation of a strong woman is essential in today’s society. The movie industry is now increasing the number of female heroines. These heroines are no longer waiting for their prince charming to come and save the day but take it upon themselves to save the day. Here are four movie characters that scream girl power.

Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games

The love for one’s family is truly the most powerful thing in the world. Katniss’s love for her sister made her volunteer to go to the hunger games. It took a lot of courage and compassion to do it. While everyone was waiting for Katniss to fail she worked hard to survive to go home to her family.

Hermione Granger, Harry Potter

While Hermione is not the chosen one like Harry, she is still a force to be reckoned with. Hermione is super smart and thinks quickly; she is the reason why Harry and Ron survived all of their adventures at Hogwarts. She is a true friend who never backed out when her friends needed her the most. Whoever thought Hermione Granger was not good enough, she made sure to prove them wrong.

Elle Woods, Legally Blonde

Elle Woods never stopped being her true self when trying to accomplish her career goals. While people first thought Elle was too ditzy to be a lawyer, she made sure to prove everyone wrong. Elle never took a shortcut to achieve her goals; she took the long and challenging way to accomplish them. Elle is the perfect example for little girls to look up to. You don’t need to change who you are to please people.

Natasha Romonoff, Black Widow

Black Widow was the first female superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was a hero that every girl could look up to. Having a female superhero representation is so important. Natasha Romanoff showed girls that they could also be a badass hero. She showed people that you could leave your past behind and move forward to a better future.

Having female characters become their own hero is fantastic and very eye-opening. These plots show girls that they can also be the hero of their own story and don’t need anyone to save them. What female heroine do you look up to?
