Growing up can be challenging for most. Going from a little kid, to a teen, or to a grown adult. Everyone makes mistakes along the way, but imagine doing it while in the spotlight. Imagine making normal mistakes that young kids and teens do, but having thousands or even millions of people watching and putting in their opinions. This is what celebrities have to deal with everyday, some more than others.
These are some celebrities who have had to grow up in the spotlight.
Kendall & Kylie Jenner
Kendall and Kylie Jenner have literally grown up being filmed for most of their life. Kendall was eleven years old and Kylie was nine years old when they first started filming their family reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. They have grown up in the public eye and been judged for most of their life. As they grew up they started to find themselves, with help from their family. Kendall had grown up to become one of the highest paid supermodels, while Kylie had grown up to build her own company called Kylie Cosmetics. She has even expanded this company and has come up with Kylie Skin and more recently, Kylie Baby.
Selena Gomez
Most people probably know Selena Gomez as a singer, but she has done much more than that. She started being in the spotlight at the young age of seven, when she got her first acting job on Barney, a popular kids TV show. As she had grown in her acting career she had a breakout role of a character named Alex Russo on a Disney show called Wizards of Waverly Place. Selena had become a Disney kid at just fifteen years old. She was on that show from 2007 to 2012. While she was acting she had also started to take a liking to singing. At the age of sixteen she signed a record deal with Hollywood Records and started off her singing career. Even though Selena had everything going for her in 2015 she was diagnosed with lupus. This had major effects on her health and career. Selena had done a Vogue interview for the 2021 April issue and she had said that she does not know what to do about her music career but she wants to give herself a real shot at acting again.
Dylan & Cole Sprouse
Dylan Sprouse and Cole Sprouse are American twin actors. They had gotten their first role in a comedy film called Big Daddy at just seven years old. Then from 2005 until 2008 they starred in the Disney Channel sitcom The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. This show was a huge success and it pushed the brothers to launch their own franchise called the Sprouse Bros brand. This included a clothing line, book series, and magazine. The majority of the Sprouses’ franchise ended in 2008, except for their clothing line. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody was retooled in 2008 as The Suite Life on Deck, in which the brothers reprised their roles as Zack and Cody. The Suite Life on Deck went on to become the most-watched tween/children’s television show in 2008 and 2009. The show ended in May 2011. Dylan and Cole were two of the wealthiest children alive in 2007 and were the highest- paid teenage Disney actors. In 2010 the brothers were accepted into college at New York University. They deferred admission for one year, and attended the university from 2011 to 2015. Both Cole and Dylan confirmed they wish to pursue acting post-university. As of 2018, Cole appears as Jughead Jones on the television series Riverdale, and Dylan is a co-owner and brewmaster of the All-Wise Meadery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Taylor Lautner
Taylor Lautner is an American actor and model. He started his acting career at just twelve years old. He got his first big role when he was thirteen in the movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. He also starred in the 2011 action film Abduction. Taylor Lautner is mostly known for his character Jacob Black in The Twilight Saga film series. This series went on from 2008 to 2012. In the late 2000s Lautner become a teen idol and sex symbol, after extensively changing his physique to keep the role of Jacob Black in further Twilight installments, and generating media attention for his looks. In 2010, he was ranked second on Glamour’s “The 50 Sexiest Men of 2010” list, and fourth on People’s “Most Amazing Bodies” list. Also in the same year, Lautner was named the highest-paid teenage actor in Hollywood. After The Twilight Saga, Lautner had a hard time landing new roles. He is currently set to star in Adam Sandler’s upcoming Netflix comedy film Home Team. The producers are yet to announce a release date, but it is highly unlikely that the film will premiere in 2021. Lautner’s post implied that he’s completed his part, but film stars regularly get called back for retakes. Taylor’s involvement in Home Team represents his first appearance in a major movie since his star turn in Run The Tide in 2016.
Overall, many celebrities have a hard time growing up in the spotlight. For most it ends up being okay, but for others it does not. This is just some of many who have grown up in the public eye and their stories.
