It’s time to boogie ladies and gents!
Loud music, strobe lights, Afros, and bell bottoms what more could you expect when traveling through time to a disco party!
This past weekend I attended a 70s themed disco party. I was in charge of the music, and after listening to 70s disco songs for hours, here are some of my favorite songs, bands and what to wear.
First of all the best bands from the 70s in my opinion are ABBA and The Bee Gees. ABBA’s music was played in the musical Mamma Mia for those who think they haven’t heard the songs before.
Some of their best songs are:
Dancing Queen
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
The Winter Takes It All
Mamma Mia
Super Trouper
As for The Bee Gees they were a trio of brothers who performed throughout the seventies who wore flashy clothing and sang high pitched songs.
Some of their best songs are:
Stayin’ Alive
How Deep Is Your Love
Night Fever
More Than A Woman
You Should Be Dancing
Some other great songs are from the movie Grease. Grease is about two high school students who fall in love during the summer and the musical was released in the late 70s. Here are some of the best songs from the musical.
You’re The One I Want
Grease
Greased Lightnin’
Born To Hand Jive
We Go Together
Besides the music more importantly is what to wear to a 70s themed party. There’s two routes you can go, either a flower power hippie or a disco diva. I went as a disco diva ordering a big Afro wig from Amazon and using some of my own clothes for a little DIY costume.
If you go the disco route the Afro is really important. You can get them from Amazon for $10 to $20 depending on what you want. I got a blonde one that was $20. Secondly wearing a pantsuit is a simple idea for the costume but if you don’t have one that’s okay! Anything sparkly will do!
For the flower power hippie you want to wear bright colors too, bell bottoms would be best and you can more than likely find a $20 costume at party city or on Amazon.
If you ever get a chance to go to a disco themed party or want to throw one yourself I totally recommend going full out, it’s a blast to the past!
