It’s officially that time of year again! Although finals are just around the corner, that doesn’t mean you should halt all Christmas festivities. Amidst this holiday and final craziness, there are so many amazing events happening right here in Baltimore.

Take in a Light Show

Only five minutes from Loyola’s campus, Hampden has their annual Miracle on 34th Street light show. For 73 years, the Hampden neighborhood has been lighting up this street intensely. Each home is decked in bright lights and Christmas scenes. Some houses go above and beyond and it’s fascinating to see all the different approaches homeowners take. I almost wonder if there is neighborhood rivalry. It’s amazing to see how much dedication goes into these decorations. These free lights will be on every night through New Year’s Eve and are a must-see!

Another cool light exhibit is at the Baltimore Zoo! This immersive light spectacular can be done on foot or through driving and gives you views of lights shaped like wildlife. If you choose to walk, there are free train and carousel rides and plenty of vendors along the way.

Visit a Christmas Market

Nothing screams Christmas more than a traditional German Market. The Christmas Village along the Inner Harbor promenade is such a fun and unique experience. Modeled after the Christkindl Market in Nuremberg, authentic vendors of food and merchandise grace the market. You’ll get the chance to try authentic waffles, gingerbread, and bratwurst. In addition, it’s a perfect time to buy gifts from vendors selling ornaments, arts and crafts, clothing, jewelry, toys, and much more. The Market will be running until Christmas Eve and is from 11-7 every day except Friday and Saturday which closes an hour later.

Go Ice skating

Ice skating always radiates such holiday energy. Luckily, Baltimore is home to the Inner Harbor Ice Rink! Tickets are only $10 and it’s the perfect holiday outing. If I didn’t have to hold onto the rail the entire time, I would almost definitely have hot chocolate in my hand.

Ride the Polar Express

The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum on Pratt Street transforms their museum during December into a winter wonderland. While it’s catered to families and children, you can embark on the Polar Express and live out your childhood dreams.

I know this is a stressful time for school and sometimes it feels impossible to do anything other than study, but there are so many amazing festive excursions happening in our backyard. As always, take care of yourselves, and happy holidays!
