Things to Do During Spring Break While You’re Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUM chapter.

The sun is shining, jackets are coming off and students are eager for the last bell! No need to plan an extensive vacation away when relaxing at home is just as exciting! If your break is in February, March or April, these ideas are sure to apply to anywhere at any time. Here are some activities to plan your break and make the most of it (without breaking the bank)!

Hit the Books

You know all of those books you haven’t gotten around to reading because of all your school work? Now is a great time to catch up! Go to your local library, Barnes & Noble, scroll through TikTok on “BookTok” or look at some HerCampus articles and find your next read. A sweet spring romance or a dark and twisted mystery…the options are endless!

Road Trip

Make a good Spotify playlist, buy some snacks and make a list of places to stop at. It can be a close or far trip—it doesn’t matter. You can go alone or bring a friend or sibling. Just get on the open roads and drive!

Spring Cleaning

We have all been dreading cleaning out that one drawer or reorganizing our closet. Spring break is a great time to donate some old shoes you don’t wear anymore or color code your closet. Trust me, you will feel so much better and be glad you spent the time to get that annoying task off the list!

Get Outside

It’s easy to fall into a cycle of sleep, school and eat. Going outside for a walk on a trail, biking around a neighborhood and just exploring nature is a great way to reduce stress and get your mind off things. So put on your sneakers and a light jacket and go outdoors!

Spa Day

A day of face masks, an “everything shower,” a good TV show and a drink of choice is the best day. Take the day off and focus on YOU. Maybe add some yoga or stretching to care for your body too. Pampering yourself is much needed and can help you be ready to take on the rest of the semester!

Pick up A Shift

Text your boss and tell them you’re home for the week! Why not make some extra money? You can put the money towards a fresh mani and pedi or a shopping spree for a new summer wardrobe or go out to eat at a fancy dinner. You won’t regret making a little extra cash to go back to school with!

Enjoy your upcoming spring break!

Talia Navarro is a freshman at Loyola University of Maryland. She was born and raised in New Jersey. She attended Middletown High School South, the place where she found her interest in studying law. She took Business Ethics, Creative Writing, and Effective Oral Communication electives. At the end of her senior year in high school, she won three different awards for submitting writing entries. The pieces included topics of being a child of a first responder, growing up as a dancer, and her dream of becoming a lawyer. Her journaling fascination was sparked by her Dad at a young age. If she ever had a school paper, she would report straight to him. They would sit in the dining room for hours and work through her corrections and how to improve her skills. Whether it is a simplistic story about rescuing her dog or writing about the causes of World War II, he was able to excel. She still continues to aspire to have her father’s ability and reach his level of composing mastery. In her personal life, she has incorporated journaling into her everyday routine, to reflect on her gratitude and make affirmations to herself. She enjoys helping her friends and classmates edit their school papers. She does not have a professional background just yet, however, she hopes to build it soon! She loves to read books in her free time. Her favorite genres are fiction and romance, but recently she has found interest in thrillers. She enjoys exercising and staying active, whether that includes going for a walk outdoors or going to an instructed class. A guilty pleasure of Talia's is shopping. If you ever offer a shopping trip, just know her answer is yes! She also has a passion for hair and makeup. She is always watching tutorials and testing various makeup techniques. She loves to try out new hairstyles and find the best hair care products on the market.
