Affordable Ways to Get Into the Valentine’s Day Spirit at Loyola

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUM chapter.

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, it’s time to start finalizing those plans to celebrate the day of love! Whether you have a significant other, or you’re celebrating National Single People Awareness Day, it’s fun to use the holiday as an excuse to treat yourself and show love to the people in your life that matter to you. However, it’s also fun to save money. If you’re looking for some fun ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank, keep reading!

Watch a rom-com with your friends/SO

Although I firmly believe that it doesn’t need to be V-Day to watch a romantic comedy, they just go together perfectly. Sure, you might have a subscription to Netflix or Hulu, but you can also access free movies through Xfinity on Campus, which is free to Loyola students on a Loyola Wifi network. Gather a friend or two, grab some food, and enjoy being whisked away to a beautiful love story. Alternatively, you can also find a fun action/sci-fi movie if you’re looking to forget that love exists.

Decorate!

Even if you don’t spend a lot of time in your living space, it might be fun to add some pops of red and pink to get you thinking about Valentine’s Day. Luckily, when you shop at the right places, you can find some affordable ways to spice up your space. Target is always my go-to when decorating for the holidays. Their stuff is cute, affordable, and can last for many Valentine’s days in the future. You can also get crafty! Stores like Michael’s always go all-out when it comes to V-Day decorations, which usually means sales! For online shopping, you can never go wrong with Etsy and Amazon for cute decorations.

Bake a tasty treat

As someone who doesn’t love Valentine’s Day, I can wholeheartedly say my favorite part is the food, specifically the sweet treats. For specific Valentine’s Day baking inspo, check out Pinterest for fun, cute recipe ideas! If you’re slightly intimidated or wary of Pinterest (I’m with you on that), check out your fave TikTok bakers’ recipes! I’m a big fan of Broma Bakery. Alternatively, grab yourself a fun themed treat from Boulder or Iggy’s to take the work out of it.

Check out a Loyola club event

For the ultimate affordable option, check out a Loyola club Valentine’s Day event on campus! These events are typically free, and you get a fun experience out of it! If you’re going alone, this is also a perfect chance to make new friends and get to know some people. (Also, stay tuned for a HC at LUM Galentine’s Day event…)

Hope everyone has a Happy Valentine’s Day!
