Now that Halloween has passed, it’s time to look forward to Thanksgiving. Here are five fun things to do around the city during the giving season.

The BMO Harris Bank Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

Taking place the weekend before Thanksgiving, BMO Harris Bank will be hosting a lights festival to get us into the holiday and celebratory spirit. It will take place Nov. 22-23 on Chicago’s iconic Magnificent Mile.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

Chicago’s Thanksgiving Parade reaches thousands everywhere, it is a well known and really fun family event that can be enjoyed by the entire family. It begins at 8am and will venture down all of State Street.

   Hoosier Mama Pie Company

Hoosier Mama Pie Company is a cute, retro-looking café/restaurant serving a wide range of sweet and savory pies that are sure to satisfy your cravings. Be sure to check them out and try some of their delicious pies as a dessert or meal for your Thanksgiving dinner.

Christkindlmarket

If you’re ready to skip Thanksgiving and run into Christmas, venture down to this German-style holiday market. It opens on November 15th and will run until late December. It sells some of the best pretzels and hot chocolates I’ve ever had in my entire life.

Marshall Field’s Christmas Windows

Just two blocks away from the Christkindlmarket, Macy’s on State Street will display their annual holiday window displays. This tradition started over a century ago in 1897 and is typically looked over with all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. The windows tell a story as you walk from one to another and definitely bring to life the holiday spirit.

I’m more than ready to get into the holiday spirit, and I hope that some of these suggestions get you excited for the holiday season in the city.
