What is Inigo Communications? How did you get involved?

Inigo Communications is Loyola’s entirely student-run communications agency and is, in fact, Chicago’s first and only student-run communications agency. It is also a class listed under COMM 345. We do full-service work for our clients including research, media outreach, content creation and more. The incredible thing about Inigo is that everything we do is how it would be in the real world, and we work with real clients in the Chicagoland area and beyond. We structure ourselves as a real agency would and charge our clients a modest fee for our work. I became involved with Inigo as a junior – I had heard about the organization through the School of Communications and knew that it was something that I wanted to be involved in. We have many mentors in the communications field from top agencies such as Golin and Edelman, and I saw this as a huge perk. Additionally, I really wanted to have a taste of what the real world would look like once I graduated, and saw Inigo as an amazing way to achieve that goal.

From the organization’s conception, what has been its biggest achievement?

There have been so many achievements that Inigo is proud of! We have landed our clients mentions in news outlets such as Forbes and the New York Times, maintained clients over multiple semesters, and won accolades such as the Future Founders Student Startup of the Year Award. One of our biggest achievements (and most recent) was signing United Airlines as a client. Working with such a well-recognized global brand is something that we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to do, and we’re excited to deliver results.

What has being involved with Inigo taught you about the industry?

Inigo has taught me so much about the communications industry. For one thing, the industry moves fast and clients are very real. In our classes, we often create projects for real brands, but the work never goes anywhere. At Inigo, we create real work for real clients, meaning that the pressure is turned way up to deliver exceptional results. Inigo has taught me the importance of attention to detail, client communications, and the ability to work in a team. In addition, Inigo has shown me the power of networking and how important it is to foster your network – you never know when you’ll need a helping hand or connection and building your network is an incredible way to ensure success, both organizational, professional and personal.
