Spring Break is finally here!  I don’t know about you, but for me, taking a vacation can be stressful and also pricey. I’ve come to realize that you don’t have to go on fancy trips to make the most out of your break. In fact, here are tons of things you can do on campus and around Chicago!

Things to Do Around Rogers Park

Flatts and Sharpe Music Company

Combining my love for learning and music, Flatts and Sharpe Music Company is the perfect place to learn about new music as well as find old records. Their services range from carrying different musical instruments and records, as well as offering instrument repairs.

Visit Lickity Split for dessert

Lickity Split is a great destination to enjoy desserts ranging from frozen custard, sundaes, cupcakes and even coffee. It is a great place to go with friends or even a quick treat by yourself. I really like sundaes, so that’s usually my personal choice when I go to ice cream shops.

Things to Do Downtown and Other Areas Around City

Chicago Cultural center

The Chicago Cultural center offers a wide variety of entertainment, so its very easy to find something that you will enjoy. They offer concerts, dance, theater acts, and art exhibitions that are completely free. It’s not only a good way to learn about various cultures but just a good starting place for an inexpensive day trip.

Chinatown

Another thing to do during spring break would be to have lunch in Chinatown. You can take the Red Line (free with your UPass) and get off at the Cermak Chinatown stop. There you can have lunch at my favorite chinese restaurant in the entire city, Joy-Yee Noodle! This place is fantastic; they use to fresh ingredients to prepare each meal and everything is so delicious. Also, make sure you try one of their fruit smoothies or bubble teas. My favorite is the mango passion fruit smoothie.

360 Chicago

Another cool place to visit while on your break is 360 Chicago. This offers a great view of the city and is a nice way to step back and just take the sights in. I am not very fond of heights, but this way makes it bearable. I would recommend doing this activity with family and friends because whenever I would hesitate or start turning to leave, my family encouraged me to stay and fully enjoy it.

Over Easy Cafe

This place is hands down, ten out of ten would recommend to anyone looking for delicious breakfast food. OverEasy is a cute little cafe located on North Damen. The service and overall experience was phenomenal.

Whether you are staying in the city or are going on an exotic vacation, I hope you can use these suggestions as inspiration for your own travels!
