Every college has it’s own special lingo. So, here’s Loyola Chicago’s Urban Dictionary that only Loyola students can understand!

IC – Richard J. Klarchek Information Commons – Who wants to say Richard J. Klarchek Information Commons when it can be abbreviated to just two letters? This is the place students gather to work, study, socialize, and more.

“I can’t believe somebody just talked at full volume on the third floor of the IC. Don’t they know that this is the silent floor?!”

LSD – Lake Shore Drive – To outsiders, LSD refers to the psychedelic drug, but for Loyola students, it’s the nickname for the road that connects the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses.

”I’ll be at Water Tower in a few minutes. My Uber is driving down LSD right now.”

DeNobes – DeNobili Hall or DeNobili Dining Hall – The residence/dining hall that opened in 2013 has been granted this nickname, perhaps out of laziness, or perhaps because students can never figure out how to spell “DeNobili”.

“Do you want to eat at DeNobes tonight? I’m feeling the make-your-own pasta bar.”

‘Blers – Ramblers – The popular abbreviation for our beloved mascot, because sometimes two syllabus is too difficult to chant over and over again.

“GO ‘BLERS!!!!!”

J-Force – JFRC (John Felice Rome Center) – Formerly known as the John Felice Rome Center, this is Loyola’s very own campus in Rome, Italy, where many students have the time of their lives studying abroad.

“I can’t wait to be at J-Force next semester! I’ve wanted to study abroad my entire life.”

Loyolo – A nickname for our beloved school, often used when someone is talking about their weekend.

“Oh you know, it was just a typical weekend at Loyolo.”

Mundy – (Mundelein) – Officially known as Mundelein College, Mundy is one of the busiest areas on campus during class times. Infamous for its mile long elevator line and horrific traffic, it’s impossible not to run into someone you know in this building.

“Somebody took the elevator to the second floor in Mundy today – so annoying.”

Harry Potter Room – This is the beautiful room in Cudahy that is known schoolwide as one of the few silent areas of the library. It’s so quiet, the entire room can hear you taking out your books.

“I think I’m going to hit up the Harry Potter room. I have three exams this week and I need to focus.”

Stacks – Although normally a universal term for a part of a library filled with hundreds of books, at Loyola, it’s the place where you go when you need to focus. Like the Harry Potter room, the stacks are absolutely silent. Good luck trying to open that bag of chips without getting some death glares.

“I was in the stacks all night studying for my midterm.”
