CC Corner: Mid-Semester Check-in and October Goals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

Amanda:

We just finished Week 7? This is a joke right? It’s always so crazy to me how days seem to drag on when you’re in the moment, but looking back it’s hard to believe how quickly this semester has gone by. I will admit for these seven weeks I have really felt like I’m flying by the seat of my pants, so I have a few goals for this October that will hopefully help me feel more organized, mindful and grounded.

1. Stretch.

My god, do I need to stretch. Sitting at my desk to take classes and do homework basically all day every day has made me incredibly stiff. I like to go to the gym a few times a week just to get moving, but I am so bad about stretching afterwards.

I should also note that I am probably one of the least flexible people you will ever meet. Stretching is honestly a little difficult for me, but I know the only way to get better is to just keep doing it.

2. Write down everything.

I mean everything. I’m pretty good about scheduling out my week every Sunday, but I slack when it comes to writing down day-to-day tasks and other things I need to remember. Even if it’s just on a sticky note on your wall, writing something down so it’s not just floating in your mind helps you feel much less cluttered.

In September, I also started a page in my bullet journal (which I am also slacking on, but we won’t get into that) of fun memories that month, and I’m hoping to carry that into October. It’s so nice to look back on moments that may have seemed insignificant at the time — like a trip to a coffee shop here, or a bike ride there — but actually provide a nice step back from our busy lives.

3. Get dressed every day.

I’ll admit, this whole online class thing has got me wearing my PJs all day. Now, that’s not always a bad thing, but I’ve found that I am far more productive when I wake up and change into a fresh set of clothes — even if it’s just another pair of sweatpants. This October, I really want to make a conscious effort to do so.

October is sure to bring some pretty amazing things for us here at HCLUC, and I could not be more excited and more grateful for this community.

Ellie:

It’s hard to believe we are already about halfway through the semester already! It feels like just yesterday I was sitting down at my desk for what seemed like the first time in months. The weeks have been flying by for me. I can’t say I feel as though I’ve learned a lot in this past month, but I also feel that most other college students can relate. The added amount of busy work that I’ve experienced this semester has been difficult to adjust to. What helps is knowing that my teachers are struggling to teach through Zoom just as much as I am struggling to learn. So, can we all just agree to do our best and not define ourselves by our midterm grades? Easier said than done of course.

Although school seems a little soul-sucking at the moment, I have Her Campus to look forward to! I love talking to our executive board every week. Ideating, brainstorming, chatting and laughing are all things that typically occur within an HCLUC Zoom call, and, quite frankly, I love it! My goal for the end of October is for us to finally start the podcast we have been discussing for the last few months. We are both super stoked to have this opportunity at our fingertips, and I can’t wait to make our dream come true! Wish us luck as we come up with episode ideas and attempt to make our technologically challenged brains understand the tools of podcast creation. Keep an eye out for updates regarding the podcast on our Instagram at @hercampusluc, and we hope you have a great rest of the month!!
