As we all know, Loyolaâs fall semester is upon us, and for students (like us!) concerned with their academics, doing everything we can to get good grades is a priority! But, after an exciting summer, it can be hard to get back into the swing of things. Homework, classes, extra curricular activities, and maintaining a social life leaves us with little spare time. So, with the new semester, itâs good to develop a strategy and study habits early on. To save you the trouble, we decided on the top seven study habits that every Rambler should adopt!
   1.  Find your go-to study/homework spot at the Information Commons (IC).
The IC is there for a reason, so be sure to use it! Thereâs no better place to sit down, read a book or do your homework than in front of a window overlooking Lake Michigan.
   2.  Download Interactive Study Apps.
Apps like StudyBlue allow you to keep notes and flashcards online for on-the-go use. These apps are great tools to use for any and all assignments or tests. Not to mention, theyâre free!
   3.  Tutoring and study groups.
Having a hard time in a class or topic you just canât seem to understand? Thereâs bound to be other students on campus feeling the same way. Get a tutor using Loyolaâs Tutoring and Writing centers and form a study group! Itâs a great way to learn while also meeting new people.
   4.  Limit your distractions.
Your phone, music and friends can all be distractions when trying to get work done. Unless these things help you focus, theyâre more than likely a distraction and best turned off or silenced (yes, even your friends!).
   5.  Take study breaks
As great as working long and hard on school work is, itâs also important to take a breather. Taking hour long or shorter breaks in between assignments can give you the energy you need to pick back up again. Just try not to take too long of a breakâŠit can lead to procrastination!
   6.  Have a positive attitude.
If youâre going into homework and studying with the âI would rather do anything butthis right nowâ attitude, then itâs going to be just as awful as you are thinking. Remind yourself that as soon as you finish with school work, you have time to do anything else you need or want.
   7.  Donât procrastinate, Ramblers!
Though that assignment is the last thing you want to do, the quicker you do it, the less time you spend thinking about how you have to do it. Procrastination is never a good thing so make a schedule, set reminders, but whatever you do, donât procrastinate!
With these tips you are sure to get started on the right foot Ramblers, letâs make this year a good one!
