Whether you choose to have plants in your room for aesthetic or for mental and physical benefits, it’s important to know how to take care of them. Many of us fail to keep our plants alive for longer than a few weeks or months, but here are some tips to help avoid that!

First off, if you already know that no matter what you do or try that your plants are goners, here are some easy plants to take care of:

1. Aloe Vera

  •  Very low maintenance and has many useful properties like healing or diminishing facial scarring, sunburns and rashes

2. California Sunset

  • The majority of succulents are great plants to have in your room because they only require a few things. For instance, try to keep your plants in a sunny spot like a windowsill and water approximately once a week. (Overwatering can be just as dangerous as underwatering!)

3. Bamboo Palm

  • These plants are the best for purifying chemicals and smells out of the air. Bamboo palms, unlike most other indoor plants, thrive in the shade. These plants require a bit of extra maintenance like clipping off their dead leaves.

4. Orchids

  • Orchids come in varieties of beautiful colors and can make a lovely addition to your room. Orchids increase the humidity of the air which creates a healthier environment for those who suffer from allergies. Make sure to keep their soil moist to ensure good growth and the petals won’t wilt.

5. Angel Wings Cactus

  • Cacti are the perfect plant, even for those who will never remember to check in on their plants. The clustered plant adds variety amongst your plants. These guys require full sunlight and moist soil (be careful not to over water.)

Setting up a weekly alarm or reminder to take care of your plants has helped me be less forgetful when it comes to watering and taking care of my plants. Plants can increase your productivity, enhance your mood, and even purify the air around you, if done right. Stop wasting your money and buy the plants best suited for your needs and lifestyle!
