Grab your popcorn, drinks, and friends because 2026 has been epic for the movie theaters! The first few months of 2026 have already been stacked with movies that have made audiences remember why they love going to theaters! Movies like Project Hail Mary, Michael, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Wuthering Heights, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 have already stolen the show as either cinema classics, or films you’ll wait to watch until they come to streaming services. But the year is not over yet! To prepare you for some fun, here’s a good list of upcoming movies for the rest of the year that will make you say “Take my money”!

First, let’s start off with the movie that has everyone going crazy right now: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. All the Star Wars fans across the world are uniting once again for a fun space adventure with Pedro Pascal and the creature that stole everyone’s hearts in 2019. Based on the hit Disney+ series, this movie will encounter new beings, new faces, and danger as they travel the galaxy together in this new film releasing Friday, May 22. While some may complain that this film will be tailored more towards family audiences rather than a select group of Star Wars fans, the film has a lot of potential to bring happiness and fun to those who just want a good space adventure for the summer!

One film that has been both praised and criticized recently is set to release in theaters July 17; this film is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The cast itself speaks volumes for the potential this movie has to offer, as it has many of the classic Nolan actors: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Elliot Page, Charlize Theron, John Bernthal, and Lupita Nyong’o. Something many people are either excited or worried about is the creation of ancient Greek monsters and legends in the style of Christopher Nolan, who is famous for straying away from using CGI in his projects; how cool or realistic will the cyclops actually look in this film? One other worry is the historical accuracy of the film. Of course, Hollywood is known to take liberties with changing certain stories or events from history to better meet the action and drama needed for the film; however, with a tale as iconic as Homer’s, can such liberties and measures be taken without straying away from the story itself? Whatever happens, it’s always fun to have a cool mythological movie out in theaters!

Finally, 2026 is the year of superheroes! You thought 2025 had all the heroic films like Superman, Thunderbolts: The New Avengers, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but this year is stacked! Long anticipated projects fans from all different fandoms are now being released to the world, and we can’t get enough! James Gunn’s Supergirl is set to release June 26th, taking place directly in the time period of the predecessor film from last year. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be gifted this year with two huge projects: Spider-man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. The release dates for both coincide with other huge pop culture events. Spider-man: Brand New Day is set to be released the same day Ariana Grande releases her newest album on streaming platforms, and Avengers: Doomsday is set to release alongside Dune: Part 3; we have had ‘Barbenheimer’, now we’re going to have ‘Dunesday’!

This is just a small list of many films that are set to release the rest of 2026, but these ones will certainly have people going insane on social media and in theaters. So be ready for spoiler alerts, edits, news articles, and so many other things because 2026 movies are just getting started!

I am a Kinesiology major at Longwood! You will usually catch me watching movies, listening to music, dancing, or singing! I am someone who loves making connections with others who share similar interests! One thing about me that I love is how I express my interests, and how I'm proud of it! You will see me proudly having room decor, books, and shirts dedicated to my interests!

My goal for the future is to be involved in the Sports Medicine field either as a Physical Therapist or Athletic Trainer! I want to try to go to grad. school to get a doctorate for this job first! If this is possible, I really want to make a difference in the lives of athletes who might be scared to return to their line of work; everyone deserves a chance to return to what they love!

Writing isn't something I usually do, but I found Her Campus at a time when I genuinely wanted to try something new! I cannot wait to be a part of this!
