Spotlight: Steph Curry

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Steph Curry is the NBA’s Renaissance man, with unbelievable talent on and off the court. He is the reigning MVP of the league, and leads the currently undefeated Golden State Warriors averaging 34.3 minutes and 32 points each game. Off the court, he is a loving family man. The close relationship he has with his family is highly publicized by the media, especially the bond he has with his father, former NBA player, Dell Curry. Also publicized is the relationship between Steph and his wife, Ayesha. The couple met through a church group when they were teenagers, and married in 2011. They have two daughters, Riley and Ryan, one of whom became the breakout star of the NBA Playoffs and Finals appearing with Steph at postgame news conferences. Steph and Ayesha post family photos and videos on their Instagram accounts that help to show why Steph is the complete package: he loves what he does both on and off the court, and has fun doing it.

When you watch him play, you can tell that he is enjoying every minute of it. When he sinks a three-pointer, he smiles and celebrates just as much as fans do. He does not take himself too seriously, and has proven that a work and life balance is attainable despite his profession’s tolling schedule. Monte Poole writes, “Nash is gone. Kobe is leaving. LeBron is on the far side of his prime. KD’s easy charm is turning sour. Center stage belongs to Steph. He’s the guy having fun, the naturally complete package, ready for what lies ahead.”

Steph Curry has changed the pace of the game. The 2015 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers received the highest television ratings since Michael Jordan’s last title in 1998; a matchup between two of the best players in the NBA, Curry and Lebron James, drew in millions of viewers each night. The popular “Steph Gonna Steph” hashtag on Twitter is used when Steph does what he does best: playing phenomenal, fast paced basketball on the court, flashing a smile and showing off dance moves in between. His favorite Bible verse is featured on his signature shoe launched by Under Armour earlier this year: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Clearly, Steph practices what he preaches. If you haven’t already, keep your eye out for him doing all things both on and off the court.
