Curious about piercing your nose? Here’s everything you need to know to before you decide whether or not to go through with it.

  1. It will hurt the most AFTER you pierce it

Prior to getting my nose pierced, I was completely terrified of the pain the actual piercing procedure would cause. However, after getting my nose pierced, I discovered that the pain AFTER is actually quite more painful than during the actual piercing. Be prepared for a throbbing ache for a few days from your piercing.

  1. People will ask WHY you did it

Family members, friends, coworkers, the cashier at target-I guarantee you tons of people will constantly ask why you pierced your nose. It doesn’t matter that it really is none of their business; I guess people are just quite curious. Come up with a simple response or witty comeback and stick with it to make your life so much simpler.

  1. You’ll want MORE piercings

After piercing your nose, you will realize that piercings aren’t actually that big of a deal. You may want to get more body parts pierced, and that’s totally cool. Just give it some time before you rush off and get the next piercing, to make sure you actually do want it.

  1. You’ll notice EVERY single person who has a nose ring

All of a sudden you’ll walk into class, and notice that the professor you have had all semester for your psychology class has a tiny nose ring on her left nostril. You’ll begin to notice every single person who has a nose ring, and probably feel some instant connection to that person, since you realize they are pretty cool for having a nose ring like you.

  1. Catching a cold is a nightmare

Having a cold is bad enough, but add a nose ring on top and you have a mucus-infested nostril with a nose piercing inside it as well. Blowing your nose a million times will definitely cause you to readjust your piercing every single time. It’s the ultimate annoying hassle that you ultimately can’t really control.

  1. People will call you a “hipster” or “millennial”

Don’t take it personally. You don’t have to be either one of those labels to be fashionable. And who knows, maybe they are just jealous of your bold style and confidence. Which speaking of…

  1. You’ll become more confident

Having a piercing literally in the middle of your face is bound to make you more confident, especially with yourself. Your nose ring will be something that makes you unique.

Clearly there are ups and downs to getting your nose pierced, and ultimately it’s up to you to make the best decision for yourself. But honestly, you won’t regret it.

Just an endlessly energetic young woman who loves a good romance novel, thinks teacup pigs are absolutely adorable, and firmly believes that chocolate can be eaten at any time of the day.
