Maggie Rogers’ Single, “Love You for a Long Time”, Is A Love Song Like No Other

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

When I first heard about Maggie Rogers, she had just released her debut album, Heard It in a Past Life, back in January. Ever since then…I have been obsessed with her. Maggie is a singer-songwriter from Easton, Maryland. She attended New York University, where she played her song “Alaska” in front of Pharrell Williams and left him speechless.  Maggie’s music has a pop-folk sound to it. It reminds me of if you were to mix Carole King with modern-day pop. Maggie is a feminist, an environmental activist, supporter of Planned Parenthood, and is involved in much more. During her 2019 tour, she donated portions of the proceeds to the ACLU and Planned Parenthood.

I personally love how Maggie talks about music and its power to make us feel things. On her website she shared, “Music makes [me] feel human. Feet on the ground, soft hair, standing with my friends and, in three parts, singing. Feet off the ground, hair wild, moving to that perfect pulse that mimics your beat and mine.”

I find a real connection within Maggie’s timeless voice and how she makes listeners feel like they’re walking in a field of flowers. Maggie Rogers’ new single “Love You For A Long Time” is about love in all forms.

In an email from Rogers quoted by Genius, Rogers explains “It’s a song about love in all its forms – romantic love, the love I feel for my friends, the love I feel for my band, and the love I’ve shared with all of you.”

Take a listen to Maggie’s new single.
