The Dynamic Drag Duo: Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodochikova

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Oh HoNEy! If you’ve never dipped your toe into the world of drag, these are the queens to watch. Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova are two world-famous, internet star, drag comedy legends who have helped me get through this year.

As a Ru Paul Drag Race fan, I had heard the names, Trixie and Katya, before. Trixie Mattel has a great documentary on Netflix that goes in-depth into the life of being a full-time drag queen. One day, during my quarantine boredom, I stumbled upon an episode of “UNHhhh” on my YouTube explore page, and my life was changed forever. Ok, a little dramatic, but mama, drag is nothing without drama.

“UNHhhh” is a YouTube series starring Trixie and Katya where they talk about “whatever they want because it’s [their] show, and not yours.” UNHhhh is a hilarious show with over the top editing that will make you laugh out loud. They talk about everything from crime, wealth, and global warming to makeup, astrology signs, and Halloween(ier). The chemistry between the two queens is electric with them bouncing off of each other’s ideas and cracking jokes until a wig is snatched off.

If the 129 episodes of UNHhhh aren’t enough, you can find them on the Netflix youtube show “Queens Who like to Watch.” Here they watch Netflix movies and TV shows while roasting the hell out of them. My favorite episodes are when they watch seasons 1 and 2 of the makeup competition show where Katya nails down the catchphrase “Ding Dong!”

So, if you want to have the type of laugh that feels like an ab workout, give these two queens a watch on youtube, or check out their new book: “Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Modern Womanhood.”
