This weeks Campus Celebrity may just be the most well known face on campus: our mascot, Iggy the Lion. From basketball games to on campus events, he always seems to be around cheering us on and pumping up our school spirit. With some of the best dance moves we’ve ever seen, he always seems to know just the way to put a smile on our face. And while we can’t exactly reveal the identity of the man or woman behind the mascot, we still couldn’t help but wonder.. what is it like to be Iggy?

Name: Iggy the Lion

Year: Junior

Hometown: the bluff

Major: LMU Pride

What’s it like to be LMU’s mascot?

It’s hot and fun haha I love representing this great school. I feel like I can connect the whole school together; bring families students and athletics together.

What are your most and least favorite parts of the job?

My favorite part is interacting with the fans. Those lifelong fans where I don’t say a word and am able to still connect with them is the coolest part because they know who I am too, especially with secret handshakes. I lose a lot of weight too. My least favorite part is getting hot and sweaty. I have to take a lot of breaks and I can’t take pictures with fans during that time.

Do you ever get nervous before events?

I never get nervous.

Which event or type of event is your favorite to work?

I love working community events and basketball games. Anywhere I can dance and interact.

What do you have to say about LMU pride?

Lmu Pride needs to pick it up!

Most importantly, how do you come up with your killer dance moves?

I learned from YouTube and my father, Simba.
