Los Angeles is serious about a lot of things, so let’s narrow it down to three F’s: film, fitness, and food. The first of the three is easy to understand; one look at the Hollywood sign from the 405 and you’re instantly reminded that LA is the land of the rich and the famous, rooted in some of the most successful films ever made. The second is equally easy to see, whether in the slew of SoulCycles and bootcamps throughout the city, or constant exposure to toned and tanned men and women wearing the latest and greatest workout gear. The last should come as no surprise, as the City of Angels clearly understands the importance of good food. From the greasiest Mexican (the best kind) to the finest steakhouses, there is no lack of amazing food available to Los Angelinos.

Los Angeles is also serious about trends, and in relation to food, the latest is donuts. Cupcakes were the “it” dessert for quite some time, but the classic, doughy sweet treat we all know and love is back and trendier than ever. There are a plethora of donut places around town, but here are our favorites:

Randy’s Donuts 805 W Manchester Blvd, Inglewood, CA 90301

If the massive donut on top of the shop isn’t enticing enough, the donuts make up for the rest. This classic establishment has been around for 62 years, and the quality hasn’t diminished. The glazed donut is everything you want in the plain staple, but the jelly donut reigns supreme. If you’re lucky enough to get one that’s still hot, just be careful not to burn your tongue! (Even if you do, we promise it’s worth it.)

Bob’s Coffee & Donuts  6333 W 3rd St # 450, Los Angeles, CA 90036

This stand at the Farmer’s Market by The Grove has been in the donut (& coffee) business for 68 years now; Bob clearly knows what he’s doing. The jelly donut is our favorite, but the apple fritters are equally amazing. If you’re more of a classic donut connoisseur, the traditional plain covered with a layer of chocolate is all you want – and maybe more.

DK’s Donuts & Bakery 1614 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90404

Not only does DK’s offer delicious donuts in unique flavors, but also cronuts (croissant + donut). Our favorite donuts are the Sprinkled Cake (chocolate/vanilla/cherry frosting with chocolate/rainbow sprinkles), Raspberry Jelly, and Maple Bacon Bliss. Their “Wow-Nuts” (half waffle, half donut) are also pretty amazing. We recommend DK’s Original Wow-Nut, with an original butter waffle, cinnamon sugar, homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Yum!

California Donuts 3540 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90020

This place has quickly become one of the most Instagram-ed destinations for LMU students, bloggers, and Los Angelinos alike. The Reeses Peanut Butter, Frooty Loops, Lucky Charms, and Panda donuts are just as fantastic visually as they are to eat and enjoy. The donuts here are what dreams are made of.
