Alpha Chi Omega Colonization

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

If you haven’t heard yet, Greek life at LMU is expanding and the newest addition will be Alpha Chi Omega starting in the spring.  If you want to find out more, keep reading!

Q. How did Alpha Chi Omega get chosen to colonize at LMU?

A. LMU and the Greek Council decided to expand and Alpha Chi Omega applied and was invited to present along with another sorority.  LMU met with Alpha Chi headquarters along with the national council and LMU felt it would be a good fit so they invited Alpha Chi to colonize.  Alpha Chi Omega graciously accepted and will be open for all girls to apply in the spring.  The Alpha Chi Omega chapter consultants are excited to be here and help women find a chapter to call home.

Q. What are the general Alpha Chi Omega characteristics?

A. Alpha Chi Omega is a women’s sorority founded on October 15, 1885 in Indiana at DePauw University.  Their motto is “Together let us seek the heights” and their brand is “Real. Strong. Women”.  Alpha Chi’s colors are scarlet red and olive green because the founders of AXΩ were sitting under the trees thinking of the colors while the red and green leaves were falling. Alpha Chi was founded as a musical sorority though the only thing musical now is their symbol of the lyre.  Their national philanthropy is domestic violence awareness.  Alpha Chi Omega members are real strong women that graciously help women in need.

Q. How will recruitment work during the Spring semester?

A. AXΩ will participate in round one of formal recruitment so all the girls going through it will become aware.  Then they will have their own recruitment process shortly after which you do not have to go through formal recruitment to do.  There will be tables at convo, coffee dates, and events like open houses.  To join, girls will go through an interview process with local alumni and then Bid Day will February 8th.  Hannah Harris from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Alyssa Anderson from University of Colorado Boulder will be the chapter consultants here for an entire year to help colonize and support Alpha Chi Omega at LMU.

Q. Are there any differences in experience because this sorority is new?

A. Since it is a new chapter the girls that join in the spring will be founders that can shape the experience they want to have as Greek women by creating their own traditions and leave an important legacy.  An advantage is the amount of leadership positions needed so every new member is involved as much as they want to be.

Q. Are there any events before recruitment for girls to learn more about Alpha Chi?

A. Alyssa and Hannah will be advertising and answering questions at a table during convo, as well as other events to learn about Alpha Chi. October 22nd from 7 to 8 in the Living Room is a night to learn about Alpha Chi, their philanthropy, and giving back to the community here at LMU.  Then on November 19th from 7 to 8, “Say Hi to Alpha Chi” in the Hill.

Q. Is there anything else you want the girls of LMU to know?

A. Alpha Chi Omega is very excited to be here and have been warmly welcomed by the other chapters and faculty.  They are also happy to answer any questions from anyone.
