5 Ways To Share Your Voice on The Bluff and Beyond

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

1. Speak

Your voice is yours and simply that. Like a finger print, no two people have the exact same opinion or the exact same views, making it that much more important for us to realize that we must express whatever we believe in. We cannot just comply and nod our heads when someone shares what they think, but rather, we must say our own ideas. While sometimes it may seem hard to vocalize our thoughts and opinions it is important to try and do so every chance that we get.

2. Scribble

“Sharing your voice” does not mean that you literally need to do talk. Often times, it feels easier to write our ideas instead of say them. Scribbling down what you feel, think, and believe on a piece of paper is just as important as saying it out loud. If you want to share what you have written, find outlets that let you do so. Find a blog, magazine, or anything of the sort where you can publish your work and have your voice be heard by others.

3. Share

Whether it be through talking or writing, make sure that your voice is heard by sharing it with others. While sometimes we might fear sharing our voice with others, it is important for us to realize what our voice can do. Our voice can contribute to a person, a community, and even the world. Think about a famous historian, no imagine if they didn’t speak up for what it was they believed in — well, in many cases if those people stayed silent, our world would not be the place that it is today.

4. Stand

We can either stand for what we believe in both literally and metaphorically. We can stand tall during  a protest as we hold up our signs in the air, or we can stand our ground when our voice is questioned by others. In fact, it is important to stand up straight, shoulders back, and chins up in both of those cases. From attending marches, or just sticking to  your views, it is important to understand that we must stand proud of what we believe in and not let anyone knock us down. If we find that people may trying to do so, then that should just give us a greater incentive to stand up even taller.

5. Support

Support others, support causes, and support yourself. Support others who have the same views as you, but also remember to support others who may have different opinions. We are all fortunate enough to be in a country that values the idea of freedom of speech and protects it. We must allow for this value to live on by providing an open and supportive space for everyone and their ideas. We must support the causes that we stand for; if you want to fight for women’s rights, find organizations that you can join and help to support. And while supporting other people and other things, do not forget to support yourself too; you need to encourage yourself to speak, scribble, share, stand, and support others.
