With Halloween right around the corner and COVID-19 rates still rising, celebrating Halloween this year might look a little different. While huge costume parties all Halloweekend might be a college staple, health officials across the country are urging students to practice social distancing and look for alternative ways to commemorate the spooky season.

Keeping the pandemic in mind, why not kick off Covid-Halloween 2020 by reminiscing on the 5 most iconic and influential celebrity Halloween looks from a time long before face masks and hand sanitizer were a part of our daily routine?

Without further ado, here are the 5 most iconic celebrity Halloween moments that live rent-free in my brain:

LEBRON JAMES AS PENNYWISE THE CLOWN

Following the Lakers’ recent win in the NBA Finals, there is no doubt that King James will go down in sports history as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Arguably more influential than his entire basketball career, his 2017 Halloween look as Pennywise from the movie IT tops the chart of iconic celebrity costumes. There’s something about a 6’8” Pennywise donning basketball sneakers that really does it for me.

HEIDI KLUM AS JESSICA RABBIT

Obviously, this list would not be complete without at least one Heidi Klum mention. The German supermodel and former Project Runway host has consistently killed Halloween with her over-the-top costumes that often take a whole team of stylists and special FX make-up artists to execute. From her spot-on Jessica Rabbit to her weirdly realistic Fiona from Shrek, Heidi Klum’s Halloween looks are always impressive, unexpected, and a total serve.

KIM KARDASHIAN AS ELLE WOODS

Not only did Kim slay Halloween 2019 with her Harvard-worthy sequin bikini look, but she blessed us with an actual recreation of Elle Wood’s Harvard video essay – approved by Reese Witherspoon herself. No matter the occasion or holiday, Kim’s iconic fashion moments are sure to break the internet.

LUPITA NYONG’O AS DIONNE FROM CLUELESS

Speaking of cult classics from the late 90s, Lupita Nyong’o stole the spotlight with her interpretation of Cher’s BFF, Dionne Davenport, from the 1995 hit movie Clueless. The Black Panther star accessorized her fit with a blinged-out 90’s era cellphone, and of course, the loose braid extension Dionne found in her boyfriend’s car during the film. Could anyone have pulled this costume off better than Lupita? Ugh, as if!

KATY PERRY AND ORLANDO BLOOM AS HILLARY AND BILL CLINTON

With the 2020 presidential election coming up in less than a month, this next look is both hilarious and relevant as ever. With the help of extensive makeup and prosthetics, the on-and-off-again A-list couple looked unrecognizable. This fun poke at politics could only have been made better by Miranda Kerr joining the costumed duo as Monica Lewinksy. It also serves as a great reminder to GO OUT AND VOTE!

Miranda is a marketing major in her junior year at LMU. She is originally from Atherton, CA - but currently lives in Los Angeles.
