It has been notoriously challenging for women to ‘make it’ in the music industry. Across all genres, there are plenty of female artists trying to make their names known and have their voices heard. Here are five small female singers and bands you should be listening to in 2021.

 

Mali-Koa

Up first we have Mali-Koa, an Australian born singer-songwriter based in London. Her effortless vocals and infectious melodies make for an ethereal sound. Her debut album, Hunger, was released in November of 2020 and showcases her beautiful voice and relatable, poetic lyricism. Give Mali-Koa some love and check out her songs “Hunger”, “Get It Wrong”, and “At the End of the Day”. 

 

Crimson Apple 

This band of four immensely talented sisters have recently garnered some well deserved recognition on TikTok. With Carthi on bass, Shelby on guitar, Faith on drums, and Colby as the lead vocalist, these four sisters create a striking alt-pop sound. The group’s passion can be felt through their daring sound as well as their stellar live performances. Check out their songs “Break Your Heart Worse”, “Sorry Now”, and “War With My Mind”. 

 

Cassyette

Another artist who has seen some growth on TikTok is Cassyette. This London based singer’s killer vocals bring an edge to her electrifying pop-rock/nu-metal sound. While Cassyette currently has only two songs released, she is a promising artist who’s bound to be a modern day rock star. Check out her songs “Dear Goth”, and “Jean”. 

 

Nova Twins

This London based rock duo, consisting of singer/guitarist Amy Love and bassist Georgia South, masterfully create eclectic and energizing songs. South’s ingenious basslines and Love’s distinctive vocals make for a unique and groundbreaking sound. Nova Twins’ debut album, Who Are the Girls?, was released in February of 2020. Some tracks you should listen to are “Taxi”, “Vortex”, and “Not My Day”. 

 

Banoffee 

Banoffee is a singer, songwriter, and producer hailing from Melbourne, Australia. Her 2020 album, Look At Us Now Dad, has an innovative and unique sound and features collaborations with Empress Of, and cupcakKe. She is a multi-talented pop powerhouse and puts on unforgettable live performances. Check out her tracks “Tennis Fan”, “Count on You”, and “Bubble”.
