10 New Shows To Be Excited About This Fall

It’s no secret that Netflix is a college staple for most students. If you’ve finished all of Breaking Bad and Orange is the New Black and are in need of some new T.V addictions, here are ten of are new fall favorites:

1. A to Z

A to Z is the new 500 Days of Summer – on TV, that is.  This show follows Andrew and Zelda from the beginning to the ultimate end of their relationship.  They are accidentally set up, but end up falling for each other.  If you want a heartfelt rom-com type of show, tune into NBC on October 2nd at 9:30.

2. Happyland

Happyland is the newest addition to the MTV’s lineup set to premiere on September 30th.  This show follows a group of employees working at an amusement park and all of the shenanigans that follow.  This show is about friends, love, and growing up. Check it out!

3. Selfie

Selfie revolves around Eliza Dooley, and if you’ve heard of Pygmalion, you’ll get that clever twist to the name.  Eliza is obsessed with her Instagram, but she wants more friends IRL. It’s up to Henry Higenbottam to give her a makeover- of her personality, that is. Find this heartwarming comedy on Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC starting on September 30th.

4. Manhattan Love Story

Manhattan Love Story is another rom-com with a dry sense of humor.  The love interests themselves narrate their lives as they navigate New York City’s dating pool.  Complications ensue when the two’s lives intertwine and blossom.  Evan from Greek is in it, too – as if you needed more of a reason to watch! The show starts September 30th at 8:30pm on ABC.

5. How to Get Away with Murder

If you’re a fan of Shonda Rhimes and Grey’s or Scandal, then this will be your new obsession. With Viola Davis as a law professor and a star-studded cast as her students, this show will have twists and turns that will keep you interested.  A law firm, a powerful teacher, and sexy students are a recipe for a new favorite show on ABC Thursdays at 10pm starting September 25th.

6. Madam Secretary

Téa Leoni stars as Elizabeth Faulkner McCord who is personally asked by the President to become Secretary of State after her retirement from the CIA.  This politically fueled show is the new West Wing that looks exciting even from the short trailer.  Watching the Madam Secretary try and deal with and balance a life of international relations, the press, and a family is sure to entertain.  Start watching September 21st at 8pm on CBS.

7. Red Band Society

This show chronicles the lives of a group of sick teenagers narrated by a boy in a coma observing the adventures in the hospital.  Octavia Spencer plays the nurse in charge of the kids, and usually finds them in the middle of their shenanigans.  This show has been called a modern-day Breakfast Club with everyone bringing different struggles and personalities to a heartwarming cast.  Catch the cast of Red Band Society (which includes actress Zoe Levin, who attended LMU) Wednesdays at 9pm on Fox starting September 17th.

8. Utopia

If reality TV is more your style, this is a good one to watch.  Utopia is an observation of fifteen people given the opportunity to create their own perfect world.  With people from such different backgrounds and such different ideas, there is sure to be some drama.  This show will be premiering in the States, but has been a long running Dutch show with an invested audience.  This show premiered September 7th, but catch it on Sundays at 8pm on Fox.

9. Gotham

If you have missed Ben McKenzie (aka Ryan Atwood from The O.C.), this is your opportunity to see him again.  He plays Detective James Gordan in Gotham City trying to find whoever killed Bruce Wayne’s (Batman) parents. Tune in on Monday, September 22nd at 8pm on Fox.

10. Mulaney

If you love stand up and comedy shows, this is your dream come true.  Georgetown alum John Mulaney plays himself in this Seinfeld-esqe show.  Mulaney will feature different comedians, both permanent and featured, and guests that add comedic gold to your fall TV lineup. Catch this Sundays at 9pm on Fox starting October 5th.
