Bethan Wallbank: Inspiring Identities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Liverpool chapter.

1) Firstly, tell us a little about yourself! Where do you come from? What do you study? Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I’m originally from Mid-Wales and am in my third year studying tropical disease biology. I’d like to think that in 5 years time I’ll be doing a PhD and perhaps be a bit more worldly but still with the same old friends enjoying the same old in-jokes. Obviously I’ll still be attending LUST shows.

2) What does your role as President entail and what made you choose to commit to such a position?

As President you represent the society and act as a go-between with the Guild, the members and other societies and organisations. I went for the role as i felt that LUST had provided me with such great opportunities and good friends that I really wanted to give something back and make sure others had as good an experience as I had.

3) Part of the most appealing elements of LUST are the positive attitudes towards diversity and freedom. What is your favourite element of LUST?

My favourite aspect of LUST has to be the friendly, fun-loving attitudes of its members who are always up for a good time.

4) Tell us a little more about the society and what it does. What do you hope to bring to future generations of LUST through your choices as President?

We aim to put on at least 2 big shows a year. Whether it’s through performing, producing, being in the audience or being back stage we try to get as many people involved as possible. We strive to put on quality shows at affordable prices and make sure everyone has a good time in the process. I hope that through being President I have enabled future generations of LUST to continue having fun and putting on shows in an accepting and welcoming environment.

5) LUST promotes a huge freedom of identity through its approach to theatre. How do you think this can help society members both through University life and life after graduation?

LUST gives its members an excellent opportunity to express themselves and build self-confidence in a friendly environment. This is something that can help you no matter what you do with your life, both during and post uni, by providing you with the confidence to try new things, meet new people and inspire others.

6) What are your plans for after graduation? Dream job?

I’m hoping to go into research but want to do a bit of traveling before I get into the serious stuff. I’d especially love to go to India. I’m not entirely sure what the future holds, but then who is?

7) Finally, leave us with a lasting motto from LUST…

‘LUST: Together in harmony’
