On any given Monday night, I would have class after hours as a graduate student. But the past Monday, my fierce, girl-boss professor of Foundations of PR & Tactics decided it was a great idea to take the education outside. Thanks to Professor Diamond, this year’s section 2 class for Fashion Marketing crashed the Met Gala and here’s how it went.
After arriving on campus 45 minutes prior to class time as I usually do, I sat down in the empty classroom with my MacBook air and began working. Shortly after the class began to fill up with my classmates, our professor came and pitched us an idea to drop everything, and head to the Met Museum. With much enthusiasm, the entire class unanimously voted to skip another lecture and headed straight for Grand Central. Fortunately for all of us, this first of May was the perfect day for the Met Ball, with New York traffic significantly heightened more than usual, it was the perfect May weather.
Getting off at 77th Street station had us right in the middle of all the commotion. As we commuted as a class towards the museum, we began to noticed heavier traffic towards a certain intersection on Madison Avenue. Little did we know that we were heading straight towards the Mark, a 5-star luxury hotel where some of the Met Gala’s biggest names were residing and getting ready for fashion’s biggest nights. My heart began to race at the thought of meeting a potential A-lister among my pool of role models and much to my chagrin, there were many other onlookers crowding among the street. Much to incoming cars’ dismay, the crowd was the very reason there was so much traffic.

Standing on the side, the childhood all-time favorite supermodel and “Queen of Cool,” walked by in an effortlessly grace in her Valentino ruffled, cool baby pink dress. Since there was so much traffic, her car was unable to move towards the hotel and with her security, walked from the hotel entrance to enter the car in the middle of the intersection. To my very surprise, she was then followed by Ruth Negga, in a white cape gown Valentino dress accompanied by her husband, Dominic Cooper. After that, it became a whirlwind of screaming tourists and young girls as Zendaya pranced out with her big hair that equally paralleled her large Dolce & Gabbana peacock dress. She was followed by one of my top ten best Hollywood actresses, Jessica Chastain who came out in a stunning soft yellow Prada dress that was reminiscent of Beauty. The two starlets were followed by Céline Dion in a black and silver, symmetrical Versace ensemble.

After standing there for so long, half the class began to make their way towards the Met. As we came to halt due to closed off roads, the NYPD, and well, the crowd, I stationed myself on top of a railing to get a better view. Because for some reason, the tallest people always placed themselves at the front, I had to get a glimpse of anyone who was getting out of their cars. I saw the likes of Stella Maxwell, who spun her pearl-beaded dress around by H&M and most importantly, I saw the back of Kendall Jenner and all its gloriousness. I could not recognize who was the bronzed woman in the ruffled coral and floral dress from the back and I should’ve known it was none other than Rihanna herself. From far, far, away, I knew Tom Ford immediately when I saw him in his sexy and dashing suit.
When it was time to head home, I even brushed shoulders with Stella McCartney, Naomi Watts, and Kate Hudson as they were running late for the Met.
What did you guys do Monday night?
