ZTA Pink Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lehigh chapter.

While walking around campus, you’ve most likely noticed the changing fall foliage, but have you noticed the perfect bows that decorate the trees around the front lawn and the chalking through the sculpture path? These signify Zeta Tau Alpha’s Think Pink® week! ZTA’s national philanthropy is dedicated to bringing attention to the risk of breast cancer through education and awareness. In 2004, Think Pink® became trademarked, serving as the overarching theme for its endeavors which include handing out pink ribbons, breast self- examination calendar stickers, and giving breast health tips. In partnership with the National Football League, American Cancer Society, and Bright Pink, Think Pink has brought breast cancer information and consciousness to the national stage.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that means Lehigh ZTA’s Think Pink Week is happening now! ZTA kicked off their philantrhopy week by volunteering at the Women’s Volleyball Dig Pink Game, a Side-Out Foundation event that raises money for breast cancer research by highlighting the importance of team work and support. The money raised goes towards Side-Out’s programming in player development and cancer research and to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation for breast cancer education and awareness. At this year’s game, ZTA and Psi Upsilon raised more than 200 dollars!

A very important cause to Lehigh’s ZTA  chapter is Bethlehem’s Making Strides Walk, a three mile walk that unites the community in honoring survivors and raising awareness about what can be done to reduce the risk of breast cancer. The ability to meet and speak with survivors as well as their families makes Pink Week something more than just a philanthropic event. Many ZTA’s walked through Downtown Bethlehem on Main and West Lehigh Street wearing many shades of pink to show their hope for a cure, their support to survivors, and love for all those affected by breast cancer.
