Wa-hayy Valentine’s Day is here…again. While many of you are sick in your own mouths at the very thought, there are a few people in relationships who want to make the most of this romantic day. If you are a poor poor student like myself and do not wish to spend hundreds on dinner out, cocktails, flowers, chocolates etc. – there are some cheaper options out there for you too! We live in one of the biggest student cities in the UK, so let’s use this to our advantage in order to get the best deals for Valentines Day! I will be highlighting 5 fun and romantic ways in which you could have your very own classy Valentines Day:
1. Marks and Spencer ‘Dine in for two: £20’
In this deal you’re able to choose from over 10 gourmet starters, mains, side dishes, desserts, a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates.
There are gourmet choices for everyone, whether you fancy a vegetarian or meaty dinner. As for the deserts…wow, they look incredible! There is a choice between Billionaires Desserts, Raspberry Pannacotta, Hot Belgian Chocolate Soufflés and many more. The choice of drinks is even better, including Cava, Macon Village as well as the choice of Irish coffee or Brandy hot chocolate. As we all know the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so this M and S deal is perfect!
Although, for some of you this may still be out of your budgets so there is the cheaper option by Sainsbury’s ; the Valentines meal for £10 which includes a main, side dish, dessert and a bottle of wine. This leaves a bit of spare change to buy some candles, flowers and chocolates to help set the mood for your romantic evening.
2. Go out for cheap cocktails!
At Mook in Leeds centre they have 2 for 1 cocktails, so instead of going out for a posh, over-priced meal you could go out for cocktails then cook dinner in the evening. This is for some of you who really want to get out on Valentines Day! I know going out isn’t for all of you, but getting dressed up in your most gorgeous clothes and sipping Bellini’s at a cool cocktail bar in town will be the perfect Valentines Day.
3. Cheap dinner deals
If in fact you don’t fancy cooking for you and your boyfriend then fear not! There are loads of Valentines set meals in different venues around Leeds that make sure us students are able to enjoy a meal out at a swanky restaurant.
Zizzi’s has a set menu for two for £35! This includes a starter, main and dessert each. This is very good value for money as on Valentines day many will be expecting to spend that on just a bottle of wine! If you fancy a bottle of bubbly too, add an extra £1 each and enjoy some Prosecco whilst waiting for your meal.
Zizzi’s isn’t the only restaurant offering this set menu for Valentines Day: Pizza Express, Strada, Café Rouge, and Akbars on Greek street all have similar deals. But make sure you book your table, these will book up quick!
4. Buy some Valentines underwear
If you really don’t fancy going out for a Valentines meal, spend your money on some sexy underwear. There are loads of lingerie shops that have some special underwear sets perfect for the Valentines occasion. Try La Senza for some sexy lingerie sets, or maybe even Ann Summers for something kinkier? Try fancy dress and dress up as his favourite celebrity or try a uniform. The dressing up can cost between £20 and £30 so maybe go for making dinner at home if you want to keep it cheap and cheerful.
5. Roundhay park/Yorkshire dales
If dressing up isn’t your boyfriend’s thing, maybe try something more romantic. Although many of us students only see Hyde Park, Headingley and Leeds Centre there are so many beautiful places surrounding Leeds that could make for a really romantic day for you and your boyfriend! Take a stroll around Roundhay Park before a pub lunch or just a glass of wine before heading back to get ready for your perfect Valentines Day meal or cocktail evening.
As you can see, especially around Leeds there are so many deals on that ensure students are kept in the loop of the Valentines Day celebrations so make sure you have a look on these websites and have the most memorable Valentines Day yet.
