There it is, that awful moment; you’re struggling with a horrific hangover when you look around and realise that trackies and a hoody are no longer appropriate library attire. The majority of girls around you have made more effort for uni than possibly imaginable, opting for fake tan, fake eyelashes, fake hair and possibly even heels. Where do we draw the line between a night out and a strive for poise and perfection on the walk to uni? With exams slowly looming, most of us barely have time to fit in our Christmas nights out around our busy schedule, so for most, surely spending 3 hours getting ready for uni would take a backseat? But no; it seems that more and more of us are making that extra effort.
Her Campus has spoken to several girls about this growing trend of daylight glamour. One Leeds students said that – ‘although I make a lot more effort now I’m in third year as opposed to first year (feeling older and wiser) I still hate it when I see girls wearing fake eyelashes, hair extensions and heels for uni. I’m all up for fake tan and makeup to cover up a multitude of sins, but if we wear all our going out slap for uni, what’s the fun in getting dressed up to go out!?’
So, in our world of every growing fakery, is it that we are so addicted to our tan, lashes, hair and heels that we just can’t leave the house without them? You only have to watch TOWIE to see that there isn’t a single girl seen at any time of day or night without all the additions and fakery (some looking better than others). Many girls see it as a security blanket and agree that they have more than a right to exercise their love of emphasising their assets with helpful assistance from the high streets miracle faking it products. Her Campus spoke to girls who totally condone this everyday strive for perfection and ultimate glamour. – ‘It’s not that I’m trying to be fake, it’s just that I feel more comfortable with myself wearing my make-up, lashes and extensions; why not treat everyday like a night out and always look your best?’
So, where do we find the balance; do we leave the slap and heels at home or do we treat the world as our runway? With such great products available to us, it’s hard to resist not wanting to make our hair longer and our skin more glowing. So Her Campus says each to their own. If you’re comfortable in your own skin, enjoy days free from layers of make-up and cuddling up for winter in comfy jumpers and slouchy clothes, save the glamour for the evening. But, if you’re the type of girl who loves to look your best, go for it! Do it all and feel great doing it, save the hoodies for bed and treat the library as your catwalk!
