Save money on your weekly shop with Morrisons – COMPETITION

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

Despite all our best intentions, life on a student budget often means we don’t eat as well as we should.  The temptation to stock up on pot noodles and ready meals rather than spending that little bit extra on anything with decent nutritional value is always present.  So when the Her Campus Leeds team heard about the new M Savers range from Morrisons, we were curious to find out more.

The new range features hundreds of everyday products at great prices.  M Savers will include a variety of great groceries at equally great prices to help shoppers – students included – to save money whilst shopping. Products include all the essentials, from teabags and soup to deodorant and washing up liquid. Couple great prices with a bold and bright packaging design and you’ve got the perfect student range.  You’ll have extra pennies for post-lecture drinks in the Old Bar, and your parents don’t have to worry about you living off reheated takeaways.  A win-win situation!

The products are priced at under £1, under 50p and under 30p, but even with bargain prices like these shopping bills can add up.

Money saving expert Saving Willingham has some brilliant supermarket saving tips that can help you to really make the most of your loan:

• Make sure you always go armed with a shopping list.  Don’t be tempted to buy things ‘on offer’ that you simply won’t use or don’t need.
• Don’t forget to look up and down when browsing the aisles so you can get a clear picture of all product options – don’t just go for the nearest product at eye level.
• Never go shopping on an empty stomach!  Sounds obvious but many of us do and you end up buying more, or purchasing things that you don’t need.
• Be aware of the supermarket layout: offers are often to be had at the end of the aisles, but sometimes you can seek out bargains elsewhere. And don’t be tempted by impulse buys at the checkout!

Morrisons has also created a range of simple meal recipes to help shoppers to create varied, nutritional and tasty dishes at fantastic prices.

Eve Shamash, Campus Brand Manager for the store, held a roundtable tasting event to help promote the new range.  A variety of key influencers, including student bloggers, ambassadors, society heads and fraternity members were invited to taste the dishes Eve cooked using the new products.  The six meals were cooked using a budget of just £50 for 15 people.

Each dish cost only a couple of pounds to make and served 2-4 people. The meals included:

Cream cheese and smoke salmon muffins – £1.30, serves two
Minestrone soup – £1.70, serves four
White fish mint puree and potato wedges – £2.64, serves four
Mozzarella tomato and avocado wraps – £1, serves two
Bean burgers with spicy potato wedges – £1.61, serves four
Potato rosti cakes – £1.15, serves two

The feedback from the event was excellent, with attendees claiming “I wasn’t so aware of Morrisons savers products before today, but you have really showed me that anyone can make a delicious meal, using good quality products for £1-£2” and that they “really enjoyed the food at such a cheap price”.

With competitive prices and hundreds of special offers, Morrisons are proud to save their customers money every single day.
