On Monday the 15th of October, Leeds RAG is hosting the biggest club night of year and you’re all invited. All of the profits from the Safer Sex Circus will be given to the Terrence Higgins Trust, one of the biggest HIV AIDS charities in the UK.
Let’s face it, at university it’s important to be aware of sexual health and safer sex. Most of us have done it, are doing it and all of us will do it. Unlike your typical campaign, the Safer Sex Circus will be a night of decadence to promote awareness. Think Moulin Rouge meets David Guetta and throw in a couple of tequila shots.
The dress code is ‘As Yourselves, With a Hint of Burlesque’. Harry Ellison, Events Manager for RAG said “If you want to come in your underwear, you will not be turned away. We don’t care. But don’t feel like you need to bare all – it’s freezing cold”.
Leeds RAG threw its first Safer Sex Ball last year, raising over £1,700 for international charity AVERT HIV AIDS. This year, RAG is rebranding the event. There will be dancers, performers, a lot of feather boas and free condoms. The night is co-hosted by Tequila so expect the games, bars and shots. Special guest DJs Eastern Fidget Posse and Jahouse will keep the music flowing.
“Tickets are only five quid. It’s the normal student price for a night out but with so much more” said Harry Ellison.
All the profits will be donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust. The charity was set up 30 years ago in memory of Terry Higgins, one of the first people known to die of an AIDS-related illness in the UK. The Terrence Higgins Trust raises funds to contribute to research for HIV AIDS treatments. They also work to improve the lives of people living with the disease. The charity also has a local support centre and outreach programme for young people in Leeds.
So come along, support the cause and have an amazing night!
