Time to wrap things up this winter…
Okay so one thing I didn’t realise about Leeds was just how COLD it is, a minor detail I should have thought about before I came, but hey I still have my student loan and clothes are definitely ‘essentials’. Mum will understand I don’t want to catch a cold now do I…
However, one thing I did notice when looking around Leeds University last year was the brilliant selection of shops, ranging from Harvey Nichols (loan isn’t quite that big) to the huge Primark (bit more realistic). So when I should be studying I have found myself wandering into town and picking out my key winter pieces, which is clearly a much more valuable use of my time, right?
One big trend this year is wearing collars with your clothing to add a bit of sparkle and if you can’t have sparkle in winter when can you. Collars are all over the high street at the moment, pearl ones, beaded ones and sequin ones. Luckily for us Topshop have saved us the effort of being creative by making this embellished number (see picture below). This is a great mid season jumper as it is warm and bang on trend being your failsafe cover-up for effortless dressing with a luxe edge.
My next challenge is finding a winter coat- you might laugh but remember it has to be warm, waterproof and stylish, does this even exist?! YES. For the past few winters I have opted for stylish and thin over warm and practical but this year all will have to change if I want to survive the windy walk to campus everyday.
My prayers have been answered by the God that is Zara. Zara has always been one of my favourite shops, especially for winter coats. Last year it was the parka and this year we see the return of the Puffer, but instead of making you look like a sausage roll they have managed to create a range of sleek and reasonably priced coats. When wearing a puffer the golden rule is to keep it simple, there is nothing more flattering than black, remember this, also tie a belt around it, just to remind people there is a waist underneath the puff.
This is current Zara stock and will cost you £79.99.
My winter wardrobe would be incomplete without some warm shoes, because sadly my feet will freeze if I wear pumps for any longer. Chelsea boots were a really big hit last year and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Chelsea boots are great, they’re warm, comfortable and look good, an all round winner. Perfect for wearing with jeans and a jumper or equally a skirt and tights. You can either go really casually with these River Island black boots with the added colour down the side. Or alternatively you could add a bit of height with these Kurt Geiger boots. A bit pricier but worth it? I’d say.
You’ll never be cold again with all these winter essentials!
