Fashion Blog – Watch this face…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

Friday 15th to Tuesday 19th February marked the most important week for British fashion… London Fashion Week. The buzz that surrounded New York Fashion Week flew across seas to London, the fashion capital and the home of innovative and daring designers.

Much of the focus was the designers and their masterpieces, and rightly so, however, it is the model who takes the dress and turns it into something desirable, making guys swoon and women regret that extra large piece of cake.

Modeling is known for being a pretty brutal business, but on the flip side being a model usually means you are incredibly good looking and naturally blessed so I’m not sure it’s a career to turn down.

One face that’s unavoidable at the moment is that of Cara Delevingne, the 20 year-old London based model and actress. Cara entered the fashion world in 2009 when she was signed by Storm modeling agency, raising her status in 2011 when she stared in the Burberry Spring/Summer campaign alongside Edie Redmayne and Jourdan Dunn. And since then she has certainly earnt her stripes, modeling for top brands such as Chanel along side walking for Moschino, Dolce and Gabbana and Fendi. Pretty impressive? Oh no wait, she bagged herself the model of the year award in 2012 and was voted one of the most influential models of our day, landing her first (I’m sure of many) Vogue covers for March 2013.

Oh, and just to add insult to injury this size 6 beauty is often spotted binging in McDonalds. Is there no justice?

Another model that has captured designers and photographers eye is little Rosie Tapner. First discovered at the Clothes Show Live at the tender ages of 15, Rosie has gone on to become a highly sort after models, ranking number 35 out of 50 Top models, only 10 spots behind burger loving Cara. You may recognise her face if you have visited a Topshop recently (silly question). Tapner has been backed by Topshop and is the face of their Spring/ Summer 13 campaign, displaying her toned body and killer pout throughout the campaign.

Topshop is renowned for unveiling fresh talent and I was quite shocked to see just how many big models started fresh faced and young at Topshop. This includes beauties such as Lily Cole, Jourdan Dunn and non other that the goddess that is Rosie Huntington- Whitley back in 2003. Rosie aged 16 is not camera shy and already has Balenciaga, Burberry and Chloe under her belt. I’m not sure how many 16 year-olds could cope with this along with school, so well done Rosie.

You never know Topshop could have the next Mossy on their hands.

Both Cara and Rosie have been both admired and desired for their striking good looks and beautiful features. Many other British models are rising in the fashion world, including 17 year-old Lara Mullen and 18 year-old Alice Cornish who are both leading lights in the Prada ad Dolce and Gabbana Spring/ Summer 13 campaigns.

The sheer amount of young talent across Britain reminds me that no one models quite as well as Brits and we have the faces to prove it.
