Fashion Blog – Top 10 Autumn Buys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

Most of you will have noticed that the temperature has already dropped considerably since the warm summer months, which means one thing; it’s time to stock up on this autumn’s wardrobe essentials! I’ve compiled a list of the top ten buys you should make this season that are versatile enough to wear as many times as you can, in as many different outfit combinations as you can. This autumn’s capsule wardrobe consists of:

1. The Winter Coat – There are so many choices on the high street these days that sometimes they can be too hard to choose from. But if you read my last fashion blog post you’ll know which trends to look out for. I usually attempt to brave the cold in a leather jacket but this year I’ll be wrapping up in a cocoon like wool coat.

2. Patterned Leggings – These have been on the high street for a while now but will look great in the cold weather with knitted jumpers and cardigans layered over the top. You can also dress them up with a pretty shirt for a night out.

3. Oversized Knit – The nation’s favourite purchase for winter has to be the oversized knit. You can layer it over shirts and dresses or pair with skirts and jeans for a laid back yet cosy look. They are also brilliant for students keeping warm in cold houses if you’re trying to save on your electricity bill.

4. Leather Skirt – Leather was all over the catwalks at fashion week and nothing says luxe better than a leather skirt. It’s not only for a night out- wear yours with a denim shirt or patterned knit jumper for extra style points.

5. Wedge Trainers – I’m very excited about wedge trainers this season. The ability to wear cool hi top trainers with a bit of extra height is fantastic news for my 5’4” self. Wear during the day to add a sports luxe feel to your outfit or on a night out instead of your usual 6 inch heels.

6. Floral Shirt – Yes it may be winter but that doesn’t mean your wardrobe can’t bloom in style. The high street has hundreds of feminine floral shirts for this autumn. It will remind you of those warm summer days basking in the sun too which is always a plus!

7. Embellished Dress – Baroque is a huge trend and everyone knows that the winter season is the time to buy a show stopping dress for all those parties you’ll be going to. Nothing says decadence more than an embellished dress.

8. Woolly Hat – This should be on everyone’s to-buy list. A woolly hat is a necessity to keep your ears warm and accessorise your winter wardrobe. There are plenty of styles to choose from as well, from knitted bobble hats to animal inspired woolly ones.

9. Country Riding Boots – In tan, black and even navy, embrace the heritage trend with some riding boots They look cool with almost everything, jeans to tea dresses – get your pair now!

10. Tailored Trousers – The tomboy trend never really leaves the catwalk so it’s only natural that the tailored trouser should be in your wardrobe. Dress down with a band tee and battered converse or dress up with heels and silk shirt. The choice is yours.
