Thou Shalt Not Mix Cheese With Soap Flavoured Things
Lavender Cheese by Lorna Greville
Lavender Cheese, who’d’a thunk it? I wish no one had. This cheese, bought from Haworth’s ‘The Cheese Place’, is a disaster to cheese kind and all of its lovers. The cheese itself is an odd feta-ish Wensleydale of sorts, and the introduction of lavender is in the form of a few lavender petals being shoved on top. The result? Cheese that tastes like soap. Jenny and myself thought it was absolutely foul, but Laura was convinced by it! I think people who LOVE parma violets would probably enjoy Kay’s Lavender Cheese but for now it has been shoved to the back of my ‘bad books’.
I must commend it on one point though; absolutely amazing sense of creativity and adventurer in the maker of this cheese, simply a shame it hasn’t resulted in anything anyone would like to eat a lot of! I’m sure ‘Kay’ will come up with something a little more palatable one day, and I can’t wait to give it a go.
On a considerably more positive note ‘The Cheese Place’ is an absolute delight, including everything cheesey you could wish for: Fondu sets, cheese boards, some beautiful slates, a vast variety of amazing crackers, a fab selection of chutneys and of course an absolutely excellent selection of cheeses, from the dales and moors of Yorkshire and elsewhere around the UK, this lovely little shop has brought the best and most interesting of British cheeses under one roof. Keep an eye out for Vampire’s Death (to be reviewed next week) and a crazy caramel cheese- a Norwegian delicacy that is bound to be reviewed at some point soon.
