Hi Guys! I am sure you all saw last week’s wonderful Agony Aunt post by Fran and Chan covering all problems love related. Well this week, I will be focusing on helping with all of your general worries and concerns. Life, especially when at uni can seem a little overwhelming at times, so if you have any problems at all and need some advice, email HC Leeds (rosannapoundwoods@hercampus.com or hcleedsarticles@gmail.com) and either myself or Fran and Chan will be able to help – keeping you completely anonymous!
Right, a bit about me – I am in my third year now studying History of Art and still can’t get used to the cold! What I miss most about home, perhaps even more than friends and family are my three little sausage dogs! I took a gap year in-between uni and managed to cross skydiving, shark cage diving and white water rafting off my bucket list … Bungee jumping is next! I am a massive make-up fiend and own way more than any girl should. The most distinctive thing about me is probably my height. I’m pretty tiny at only 5ft, but you know what they say … The best things come in small packages!
I have never done drugs before, and to be honest have never been massively tempted. But all of my new housemates take drugs and I feel I should be too … But I’m scared.
Please don’t allow yourself to be pressured into doing anything that you don’t want to, or that makes you feel uncomfortable. I know being at uni means a lot of people like to experiment with things such as drugs, but that doesn’t mean that you have to and also – it is illegal! By standing your ground and sticking to your own beliefs not only are you preventing any regrets but you will also gain respect from those around you. You are not alone, I have felt the pressures and expectations that uni can bring, but honestly people won’t judge you for saying no. Be confident and stand your ground!

I have just started my second year and I still really miss home. I seriously considered dropping out last year but hoped the feeling of loneliness would get easier, but it hasn’t. I really don’t want to give up on my degree as I love my friends and my course but I don’t know if I can cope for another two years.
I think every student at one point or another has felt this way. Leeds is over 4 hours away from where I live so I really understand how you feel. First of all you are doing so well. You have already managed a year and have returned for another one. This alone should show you that you are capable of doing it, and I know it doesn’t seem it at the moment but it does get easier. You have to remember that you had nearly 3 months at home over summer, so coming back will always be harder initially. The fact that you have some great friends and enjoy your course will really help. Make sure you talk to your friends about how you feel so that they are completely aware and can support you. Also make sure you give yourself weekends at home to look forward to (trust me they make your weeks much more bearable!) But if things really get too much and you need to get home for some TLC there is always the Megabus! Keep going, it will all be worth it when you have your degree!

I am so far in to my overdraft and I have only been at uni for a month or so. I just can’t curb my spending and I am going to run out of money. I didn’t realise life was so expensive!
I know exactly how you feel, and I know it’s difficult but you need to be strict with yourself! Managing your money is just one of the hurdles that come with university and I know I probably sound like your parents but it’s a great lesson to learn for life! First of all I would start by looking at how much money you have for the rest of the term, then make a weekly budget and stick to it! I keep receipts and try and write down everything I spend so I can go over it and decide whether everything I bought was necessary (if I am honest I probably didn’t need those shoes!) Or, if you really can’t say no then maybe think about getting a part time job. If you do decide to do this though, make sure you are realistic with your time so your uni work doesn’t suffer.
