6 Myths About GenZ At Workplaces That We Wish To Debunk Right Now!

All the magic in the wizarding world but ain’t no spell for rightfully dispelling the myths that employers have about GenZ applicants. Have you ever found yourself trapped in a conundrum of not getting hired because you have no experience and having no experience because no one’s hiring you? Same.

Sure, we are not subscribers of the hustle-culture, ‘cos that stuff’s toxic, but I think it’s high time that we dispel these most-peddled stereotypes about us.

1. Loyalty isn’t a GenZ vibe.

So you won’t hire us because we tend to take French leave the moment we find our way around a better-paying job? Honestly, only an imbecile would miss such an opportunity! Nope, the attachment issues of our generation aren’t to be blamed here. Our loyalty only finds a home where we feel dignified. You pay us in peanuts and expect our unswerving commitment at work. Wow, logic just left the chat.

2. We are perpetually seeking appreciation.

Regardless of any generation, if someone has poured their heart and soul into something, a tad bit of praise will only fuel their next performance. But here you are with your puffy face pestering us to put in extra hours without even giving us a single pat on the back. Remember, GenZ doesn’t settle for less, and that’s the most fascinating thing about us.

3. We are spendthrifts.

Just because pop culture has shown our generation extravagantly burning a hole in our pockets, doesn’t mean that we are terrible at managing finances. In contrast to the notion, we have stock market monitoring software installed, proving our value for maximising financial benefits. Most essentially, we learn to handle our finances well ‘cos we don’t wanna go broke, you know.

4. We’re bull-headed and restless.

Uhm, hello? Did you just mistake us for one of your teenage nephews? We ask a swarm of questions before adhering, but we give up in the face of rationality. If your tight deadlines have reasoning then we most certainly won’t rebel against your demands. But, if you’re looking for someone who will slavishly obey your orders, then sorry, hiring young blood is a bad idea.

5. We’re poor decision-makers.

No, we don’t look for a boomer staff every time we need to hit that send button on our emails. No cap, the only reason we seek a spectrum of opinions is to draw valid conclusions. Labelling us as poor decision-makers without giving us a chance is so not fair!

6. Mental health is our all-purpose excuse.

If you believe that mental health is an ‘excuse’, then we should pack our bags and run ‘cos you’re a glaring red flag! Your wafer-thin idea of mental illness only makes it tougher for us. The superficial workshops during the mental health awareness month won’t tuck away the fact that how grossly under-discussed depression is at workplaces. ‘Cos you know, no matter how much room freshener you spray, s**t still stinks.

We bring the freshest ideas to your table, so mind dismissing your old-fashioned stereotypes about us for a change?
