Thomas Merton once said that “in the end, it is the reality of personal relationships that saves everything.” We work so hard to succeed in life and sometimes don’t even worry about who we bring down on the way to the top. What we don’t realize is that in doing so, we are only playing ourselves. I strongly believe that it is through helping others that one can and will feel accomplished. Right now I am in college working as hard as I can to ensure a career after I graduate. None of that will matter if the results aren’t meaningful or have no value.
Today, TOMS hosted “One Day Without Shoes”. TOMS asked people to pledge to lose their shoes for a day in order to raise awareness for “those people who don’t have a choice.” This event is designed to draw attention to all the children in impoverished nations who are exposed to illnesses and have no hope because they lack something we easily take for granted—shoes.
“A Night Without Shoes” was hosted by two seniors who wish to present TOMS to the campus. They hope to eventually create an organization where students can be part in a “shoe drop” that TOMS participates in yearly.
I own two pairs of TOMS because I personally think they’re pretty funky and I love the cause. I traveled to Kenya this past winter break and was exposed to this poverty. The whole time I was there I struggled with trying to find something I can do to help. I am still struggling with this. I realized that having hope and raising the awareness of global diseases and impoverisment is the greatest thing I can do, and it will go a long way. So, I need your help!
My TOMS
For every pair of TOMS that you purchase, a pair will be given to a child in need. “One for One.” It is not right but necessary.
Order your TOMS today and get $5 off your total when you enter “CAMPUSMOYNE” (coupon will expire on May 1st) . Don’t do it for my plead or to add to your shoe collection, do it because you want to change a life!
