Review:

One Direction have once again topped charts and set records with their brand new album, Midnight Memories. The boys have been promoting this album since August, when they released their single “Best Song Ever” (which surprisingly turned out to be the best song ever). Now that the album had been released, I was able to listen to it in its entirety.

The boys have really evolved from their first effort “What Makes You Beautiful”. On Midnight Memories, the boys wrote more than half of the album. We all love “Story of My Life”, but I’m happy to say that the song isn’t even the best stuff on the album. Here are some key tracks:

“Diana” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCgMwzkUMFo – This song is great because its gives off an authentic eighties, pop-rock feel.

“You and I” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHJyI-2q3U4 – This is probably my favorite song off of the album. This may very well be my wedding song. I don’t care if I have to marry my car. The song will be played. It’s simply beautiful and the guys’ voices have a perfect mixture of power and gentleness on this track.

“Don’t Forget Where You Belong” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSvudXpazRk  Co-written by 1D’s Niall Horan and Britsh band McFly, Dont Forget Where You Belong, has a nostalgic and anthemic feeling about it. I could imagine the boys singing this in some sort of green field in Ireland. It reminds me of “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds, and the last scene of The Breakfast Club.

“Better Than Words” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SVqkk7OnYI  This song made my jaw drop when I first heard it! I didn’t expect it coming from the boys because it had such a groove to it and a natural bounce!

“Alive”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=889FULe0AsM  This song shows the boys in a more different light than ever. This song really epitomizes a british rock band. It makes you want to pump your fists in the air. 1D definitely makes me feel Alive!

Overall, the boys go in a genuine rock direction. The best part is that it doesn’t feel forced; it just feels like a natural progression. Midnight Memories is definitely the best album of all. I’m sure we will be saying the same thing about their next one. One Direction does NOT disappoint.

Congrats, boys! Non-directioners will finally see what they’ve been missing out on!
