Lexy Pickett ’13 Co-President of the Student Government Association

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

What’s your Major/Minor & why?

Psychology – why not?

What else are you involved in on campus?
Volleyball and Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

How did you get involved with SGA?
I had been involved with my student government throughout high school and freshman year I saw a booth at the opportunities fair and decided to go for it and make some Pick Pickett fliers.

What do you like about SGA?
I enjoy hearing valid student concerns and being able to actively work with other SGA members to proactively find solutions and of course the sweet hoodies we get each year.

What is SGA working on for this school year?
This academic year the SGA has been working hard to meet the needs of students.  In an attempt to boost school spirit on campus the SGA collectively worked with SACC to provide a student pep rally and tailgate for the women’s volleyball Upstate Challenge game versus St. Rose.  The event was very successful with a large student turn out and we plan on making the tailgate a tradition for future upstate challenge games for all sport teams.
SGA is chartering a coach bus for Thanksgiving Break which will provide transportation for all students traveling to the New York City area.  In an effort to give these students an easier and more accessible means of transportation home to be with their families for the break.

Any new policies?
The SGA is currently working on a soap initiative to provide soap dispensers and hand driers in all residential hall bathrooms.  With the help of student input the SGA is also creating a more eco-friendly campus by removing the trays in the cafeteria which will cut down on an immense amount of waste.
Other main goals for the rest of the semester is working to create a central mail room for campus as well as work with the student body and administration to find a compromisable solution to the smoking situation on campus.

What would be your best advice for first year students?
Get involved! It may seem generic but Le Moyne is a great school to get involved in with the small campus atmosphere. College is what you make of it and about the people you meet along the way so the best way to do this is to put yourself out there and try new things.

What do you do for fun/to relax?
Sleep when I can and eat dark chocolate or peanut butter out of the jar or both together.

What’s a quote/motto you live by?
“Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. – Eleanor Roosevelt

She was born in the Dominican Republic, but was raised in the Bronx, NY. One of her greatest passions in life is the art of communication and how people relate and communicate with each other. Living in New York City only fostered this passion because her whole life she has been surrounded by different cultures and people. Ivanna enjoys writing and reading, specifically about human interest stories. She prides herself in having a great work ethic and unlike some she enjoys constantly being on the move and being busy. In her hands you will always find either her iPhone or coffee (or on a good day both). She also loves all things comedy and is always trying to make someone laugh.
