The FYI for Social Networking

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.
Hey Ladies,

Now we all know there are certain things that should never be on your social network
profile. I have compiled a list of things that should not appear on your profiles, whether you
tweet tumble or Facebook. There are just some things that you shouldnít have because of certain
people who may be looking, such as, and most importantly, a potential employer or just a future
love interest.

1. Nude Pictures: Now I know this one should be an obvious one but, for some, it still must be
said. Nude pictures are not attractive to a potential love interest and, more importantly, can also
cost you a future job. Not to mention, once nude pictures are posted on the internet they are there
to stay, and will remain for years to come. In 20 years when you run for president, they will
definitely resurface and kill your chances at election, but hey, itís your decision.

2. Relationship Issues

: Now you donít have to hide your relationship, but broadcasting your
issues on Facebook is not the way to go. Relationships are meant to be shared between two
people, not your 1,000+ Facebook friends. What goes on behind closed doors should stay there.
Certain things should stay private, and what goes on in your relationship is one of them. Also,
constantly posting your relationship problems makes you come off as dramatic and immature,
neither of these are good qualities.

3. Personal Conversations: Okay, having a conversation on twitter with someone that goes
on as if you are texting that person should probably be said straight through text. No one wants
everyone in their business. Carrying on conversations like these on social networks gives people
the reason to be nosy. You canít blame the people for being in your business when youíre putting
it out there for them to see! Leave a little mystery; no one needs to know everything, especially
when it comes to personal matters.

4. Prohibited Items:

Not everyone has their own ìrecreational activity,î but posting statuses
about being ìso drunk you forgot where you live,î is a little much. I donít think I have to go on
about other examples like this that are just complete nonsense.

5. Nasty Provocative Status: There’s no reason to continuously tell your followers and friends
just how sexy you are because we all were told by LMFAO that if you’re sexy, they will already
know it. You should never have to convince anyone, let alone an audience of people you barely
know. Posting very provocative things gives a bad impression, and gives you an image of being a
little trashy. Class it up and quit it with the provocative statuses.

I hope these few tips will help you to class your social network profiles up a bit, and I
hope that most of this information you already knew! Here’s to classy profiles!

Ivanna Abreu is a junior Communications major at Le Moyne College with a concentration in Advertising and minors in English and Creative Writing. She was born in the Dominican Republic, but was raised in the Bronx, NY. One of her greatest passions in life is the art of communication and how people relate and communicate with each other. Living in New York City only fostered this passion because her whole life she has been surrounded by different cultures and people. Ivanna enjoys writing and reading, specifically about human interest stories. She prides herself in having a great work ethic and unlike some she enjoys constantly being on the move and being busy. In her hands you will always find either her iPhone or coffee (or on a good day both). She also loves all things comedy and is always trying to make someone laugh.
