Campus Celeb: Andy DeAngelo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Andy DeAngelo

Hometown: Utica NY

Major: Communications (concentration in filmmaking)

Minor: Undeclared

Andy DeAngelo is this week’s Campus Celebrity because of his incredible talent for filmmaking. Andy is only a freshman and has already made countless short films and a feature length film. Last summer he went to California for an internship for a film studio. You can watch his short films (and trailers for his full length film) on his Youtube Channel.

What inspired you to do filmmaking?

Andy: When I was 6 years old I watched the behind the scenes of “Jurassic Park” and wanted to make movies since then. I started making films when I was 12 and eventually progressed and won an award at 15. Winning the award got me some recognition and the writer for a feature film titled “Exes” contacted me and asked me to direct the film. We filmed it last summer and premiered it in November.

What was it like directing and creating a full length film?

Andy: It was crazy, a total dream come true. We had a year to make the film and spent about four months filming. As pre production progressed, we continued to gain people helping, eventually we had over 70 people working on the project. A dream of mine was to get a film on IMDB and I never thought it’d be done, then “Exes” was listed and that was an out of body experience in itself.

Have you been doing anything on campus?

Andy: I am actually working on a short film as of now titled “The Bright Sides of Life” with my friend and another Le Moyne Film Student, Cameron Hill. For this short we will be raising money and hopefully sending it to Sundance Film Festival. I also do work down at LCTV and am always willing to help on projects.

Are you planning on directing another feature length in the future?

Andy: Yes! I am actually hoping to film my next feature in 2015. I will be writing it as well, I have some ideas floating around but nothing official yet. I probably will begin writing the film in spring.

What are your plans after graduating?

Andy: I plan to move to Los Angeles and attempt to get into the industry. Itll be tough financially but I am willing to do what I need to get into the industry, even if that means living in my car.
