This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Hometown:
Syracuse, NY

Major/Minor & Why:
Psychology with a concentration in education. I have always had a love for kids, my whole family is involved with teaching and after being in so many different classrooms I realized that teaching kids in the inner city with special needs is what I am meant to do with my life.

Other things your involved in on campus/work:
I have been involved with the OneLemoyne group – making LeMoyne a more “vibrant campus.” I am also a part of the  Tau Sigma Chapter – Honor Society for transfers (I transferred from UMass Amherst). I finished student teaching in the fall which was amazing, working with the toughest kids in Syracuse and plan on continue doing that.

How long have you been playing lacrosse?
I have been playing lacrosse for 10 years.

What’s the best part about being a student athlete?
Being a student-athlete is a lot of work, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The best part about it though is being with the girls on my team. Experiencing things that kids dream about, and doing it along side of some of your best friends. When you’re on a team you have a special bond with the girls on your team and you can’t take away the memories.

What has been some of your most exciting moments on the team?
Definitely in 2011 going to the NCAA final four – such an amazing experience. There are so many funny and exciting moments that occur everyday that I can’t narrow it down to just a couple.

Do you mind explaining to us what the Tewaaraton Award is? What does it represent?
Tewaraaton award: The Tewaraaton Trophy is given to one outstanding college lacrosse player in both the men’s and women’s game out of all divisions, each year. In honor of the Mohawk Tribe, the trophy is named the “tewaraaton,” originating from their native word for “lacrosse.” The trophy consists in a shape of a hexagon where the six sides represent the 6 tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy. It is the biggest honor in lacrosse to be nominated for this award and I only dreamed of being nominated, not thinking it could be me. I am very thankful for this opportunity.

What do you hope to do after Le Moyne? How will playing lacrosse help you in your life after Le Moyne, if it will.
After LeMoyne, I would love to teach as stated before. Working with children that live in poor, rough neighborhoods and being the impact on their lives. I would also love to coach lacrosse. If I could do both that would be the best thing to happen. After student teaching, I especially saw how lacrosse has already helped me. Being a student-athlete helped me grow into a confident person and able to handle whatever is handed to me. And if I am lucky enough to coach, I will be using everything I learned playing and give my knowledge to my future players.

What’s a quote/motto you live by?
I have a few quotes that I live by, songs that I believe that represent who I am and what I want to be. There is one quote that I have lived by since my senior year of high school from the movie, Rocky Balboa: “It’s not about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward… That’s how winning is done.” I first used this to get me through a time in my life when my father was diagnosed with cancer and we had to fight through it. Since then, I believe it plays a role in every challenge that comes in my way.

What do you do for fun/to relax?
For fun I like to hang out with my friends, boyfriend, and family. I love to shop, read Jodi Picoult books, go out on the weekends, and going on long runs. I always watch Pretty Little Liars on Mondays with my best friend and do little things throughout every day that make me happy.

Your celebrity crush?

I would definitely say that Adam Sandler is my celebrity crush. I love his movies!!

I have had some great professors at LeMoyne. I would say Dr. DiFabio and Dr. Michaelson have been my two favorite professors.

She was born in the Dominican Republic, but was raised in the Bronx, NY. One of her greatest passions in life is the art of communication and how people relate and communicate with each other. Living in New York City only fostered this passion because her whole life she has been surrounded by different cultures and people. Ivanna enjoys writing and reading, specifically about human interest stories. She prides herself in having a great work ethic and unlike some she enjoys constantly being on the move and being busy. In her hands you will always find either her iPhone or coffee (or on a good day both). She also loves all things comedy and is always trying to make someone laugh.
