 Meet Ashley Casey (Top)
And Amy Dieffenbacher

These ladies take being a dolphin to a whole new level. Aside from having demanding school work (they both have double majors!!) and extracurriculars, every week Ashley and Amy make sure that LMC students stay well informed and entertained through the Dolphin Newspaper. They have both been a part of the Dolphin for a long time and this year they get to run it. With an amazing staff and even more amazing commitment they work hard and sometimes stay up late to make sure the voice of the student is heard through journalism. This is why they are the campus celebrities for the week and we got the inside scoop on what goes into preparing the Dolphin every week.

Thank you both for doing this interview! The Dolphin is such a big part of Le Moyne.
Ashley: Aww thank you we are both honored. Her Campus is great too.

Where are you girls from?
Amy: I’m from the Binghamton area
Ashley: I’m from Fabius, NY.

Is this your first year as co-editors of the dolphin?
Amy: Yes it is and were really excited about it.
Ashley: Yea it’s alot of work, but we love it.

Tell me a little about your journeys with the dolphin?
Amy: I’ve been with the dolphin since I was a freshman. I’ve was a copy editor for two years and then last year I was made the chief copy editor.
Ashley: I didn’t work on it my freshman year. I joined the dolphin sophmore year when I suggested, to the then editors, that there should be an arts and leisure section and they told me I should just be the editor for that section. So I was little in shock, but have never regretted it. I was also a section editor last year before I studied abroad and even wrote a column while I was in Spain.

The dolphin newspaper is such a huge part of the school and LMC students, can you tell us what goes into putting it together every week?
Ashley: well where do we start? Haha
Amy: Every Monday we have a budget meeting to talk about the week ahead because it’s important to plan ahead for articles, pictures and advertisements. Then section editors have their meetings and assign articles and deadlines for the articles. After they have edited them they send the articles to us and to chief editors so that the style and grammar can be checked. The last step is productions which means we have to lay out the paper. It takes some time so were up till late before paper comes out.
Ashley: Were getting the hang of it so it should get better. We’re enforcing better deLines so thats it’s easier on every one.

Wow! That’s alot of work where do you guys do all of this?
Ashley: We have an office across from the den
Amy: It’s brand new this year so were really excited. We used to be everywhere and it’s good to have one place where everyone can report to and hang out.
Ashley: It’s really helped with our staff. We are all a lot closer it’s like we have a little community in there.

How is the dolphin this year different from all the others we’ve had?
Amy: Were signing up for a website so people can see and comment on articles online.  We have a twitter this year for our feature “trending tweets” where we put different tweets from the students who follow us.
Ashley: We have a lot more regular features and columns. A lot of students are getting their opinions out there through the paper this year.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Ashley : I like to sleep haha and play the clarinet I am in the Le Moyne college chamber orchestra. I went abroad to spain last semester and also love drawing.
Amy: I work at Brian’s dry cleaning in Cicero  and I like to watch movies in my downtime.
