Not feeling like you’re into the whole Christmas thing this year? Is it because you’re too focused on finals, and work? Well, there’s no reason to let things like that keep you from feeling holly jolly this Christmas season, so here are a few ways that will help you jump right into the spirit!
Turn On The Holiday Tunes: Nothing will put you in the spirit faster than Christmas music! Once you hear those same songs you’ve been singing along with since you were 5, the warm and fuzzy Christmas feelings come rushing back. But to have maximum effect, you’ve got to sing along! Because as Buddy the Elf has wisely instructed us, “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.” Following are some of my favorites! If you haven’t heard them, go listen! Who knows, they might just become your new favorite!
-O Holy Night by Josh Groban
-Celebrate Me Home by Kenny Loggins
-My Grown-Up Christmas List by Clay Aiken
-Please Come Home For Christmas by Bon Jovi
-Do They Know It’s Christmas? by Bono
-Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Mariah Carey
Throw A Holiday Party:Schedule a date that works for everyone and is just a few days before Christmas. If you want it easy on yourself, tell everyone to bring a dish. If you really want to have some fun, have an ugly holiday sweater contest! This party will have food, friends, and laughs! Fabulous!
Watch A Classic: It’s A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town are definitely some of the most popular classic Christmas movies that will surely put you in a festive mood! Kick back, grab a glass of eggnog, and enjoy the show! I know that there’s ALWAYS one movie that gets me into the spirit, and that’s Merry Christmas Charlie Brown! I have to watch it every year, no matter what! Why? Because, one, I love Charlie Brown, and two, the true meaning of Christmas part that Linus does, gets me everytime!
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill towards men. That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
Do Something For Others: The best gift you can give is not one wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper, it’s the help you can give to others. Donate to a local clothing drive or volunteer at a soup kitchen. You could even volunteer at a Salvation Army or just go visit a homeless shelter. Your small act of kindness goes a long way and will make you feel great, as well as the ones you are helping!
So, what are you waiting for?! Finish all of your work and finals, and then it’s time for you to start enjoying the season! These 4 things are sure to put you into the holy joly mood that everyone loves to be in! Start doing them, and you’ll be saying “Ho,.Ho, Ho!” in no time! Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a great break!
